SKY Fiber keeps you in the loop with digital trends to watch this 2023

More than ever, the remote and hybrid arrangements in school, work, and events have shown us that everything is moving faster in this digital era. It might even be difficult sometimes to stay updated with the latest tech or hottest trends online.

SKY Fiber has rounded up a couple of digital trends to help keep casual internet users in the loop. At the same time, SKY Fiber continues to provide select Super Speed Plans with improved speed boosts at no extra cost until May 31. Their 50Mbps Plan, for example, is offered at only P1,699 per month but can give speeds of up to 150Mbps until the end of May.

Don’t miss out on this promo as well as the emerging digital trends you can take advantage of this year.

1.   More people are getting hooked on audio content.

It’s time to join in the craze and diversify your playlists with more music and podcasts. Audio content is perfect for folks that want to multitask or have background sounds while working on other things.

Listen to a new genre or learn something new from today’s popular podcasters. After all, many are embracing “edutainment” or education and entertainment put together as online content.

2.   Smart wearables are becoming the norm.

Still on the fence about using a smartwatch or fitness tracker? Several others have strapped the device on and integrated it into their lifestyles.

Coming from a pandemic, health has become a major priority for most. Smartwatches and fitness trackers can help you monitor key health indicators such as heart rate, sleeping quality, and blood pressure. You can also set it up to remind you to exercise and track your fitness goals.

3.   Online communities foster more support and connection-building.

While online communities have been around for quite some time, the quality of conversations and formats of social media apps have been shifting. It’s less about highlighting individual experiences and more about helping or connecting with other people online.

Don’t shy away from internet forums or chat groups that can contribute positivity to your life. If there’s a community that values the same interests as you, join in the conversation or, better yet, start your own.

Make your online experience more seamless with a reliable internet connection that won’t hurt your wallet. Know how intentional cable-cutting disrupts your life

Intentional cable cutting and theft have been a rampant issue nationwide affecting thousands of Filipino households, depriving them of internet service, cable TV connection, , and at times, power supply.

With households affected from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, this malicious crime has been a major concern of telco and power utilities providers and the LGUs, that jeopardize customers’ access to news, information and entertainment crucial for their day-to-day activities.

Among its effects is how it disrupts the steady and seamless internet connection very much needed by professionals with remote set-up or online business owners. With disruptions affecting their connection, productivity halts, and attending to urgent tasks and clientele are disturbed.

Kontra Putol

Apart from the adverse impact to work, disruptions caused by illegal cable cutting can take a toll on the academic performance of students in hybrid learning set-up as they rely heavily on stable and reliable internet connectivity for timely submission of school work, taking online quizzes and examinations, and attending day-to-day classes. When the disruptions continue due to these illegal acts, this may lead to students having poor performance in school.

Kontra Putol

Intentional cable cuts also disrupt TV reception, which is still vital in getting the latest news and information, and providing quality bonding moments for the whole family in watching entertaining shows and movies in the comfort of their homes.

Kontra Putol

Aside from TV and internet disruption, illegal cable cutting puts the safety of individuals and the environment at risk. There have been reports that perpetrators have been electrocuted trying to cut live wirings that also resulted in fire in the neighborhood. Sometimes perpetrators also burn the non-profitable stolen wires producing harmful gas that pollute the environment and affects the health of individuals when inhaled.

In an effort to address these malicious acts and hold violators accountable by legal action, SKY partnered with other telcos and cable operators, power utilities providers, and more local government units in the country to strengthen its Oplan Kontra Putol initiative.

Oplan Kontra Putol takes prompt action to restore affected lines, to continuously monitor the situation by working closely with local authorities, and to observe the strict implementation of RA 10515, also known as the Cable Theft Law.

Those found guilty of violating the Cable Theft Law may face imprisonment from two to five years or pay hefty fines imposed by the court.

With the help of corresponding telco partners, barangay units, and local officials, SKY has filed legal charges against various perpetrators involved.

Through Oplan Kontra Putol, SKY continues to heed the call for immediate action and urges the public to join the nationwide initiative by being more alert as well as reporting related incidents to SKY’s official hotlines and their respective local authorities.

Concerned citizens can report suspected illegal cable cutting activities through http://www.mysky.com.ph/kontraputol, via Security Hotline number 34499111 (for Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan only), or by messaging SKY’s 24/7 messaging platform KYLA on Viber, Facebook Messenger, and SKY’s official website.

For updates regarding SKY’s efforts to restore services in areas affected by cable cutting, subscribers can check mysky.com.ph/help-service-advisories. They may also follow SKY’s social media accounts on Facebook or Twitter.

#SwakSaSKYFiber: With its new super speed plans, SKY Fiber hits the sweet spot between affordable and seamless connection

SKY Fiber recently launched its new set of Super Speed Plans to deliver on consumers’ need for inexpensive plans with reliable internet connection.

“While we all continue to adapt to the new normal, we cannot deny the significance of having a good quality internet connection at home. As an internet service provider, SKY Fiber wants quality internet connection to be accessible to more Filipinos. With our new Super Speed Plans, we have enhanced the speeds of our best value plans bundled with the WiFi Mesh without compromising its affordability,” James Dumlao, SKY’s head of Consumer Products Group, said.

SKY Fiber’s new plans offer Unlimited Broadband Plans with speeds of up to 50Mbps (P1,699/month), 100Mbps (P2,299/month), and 150Mbps (P2,799/month), compared to its previous offering of 40Mbps, 80Mbps, and 120Mbps. The Unli Broadband + HD Cable TV Plans also provide higher speeds of up to 80Mbps (P2,499/month) and 150Mbps (P2,999/month) with more cable channels.

SKY Fiber Swak

These Super Speed Plans provide subscribers the right balance in terms of speed, strong connectivity, and value for money. Alan Supnet, SKY’s head of Broadband Products, said they looked into the sentiments of many Filipino families when they were developing SKY Fiber’s new set of plans.

“Families with a limited budget tend to get low-cost plans or wireless prepaid internet, but risk experiencing slow and spotty connection. On the other hand, ultra-high speed plans that do offer reliable connection come with very high costs, which not a lot of people can afford. SKY Fiber offers that sweet spot that’s ‘swak’ for their needs and budget,” he explained.

The new plans also come with free WiFi Mesh units (number of units included depend on the chosen plan) to evenly distribute the internet signal around the house. To date, SKY Fiber remains to be the only internet service provider in the country that readily bundles the WiFi Mesh for free with its plans.

“We made sure to keep the WiFi Mesh included for free in all our broadband plans because we’ve seen how it enhances the experience of our subscribers in eliminating dead zones at home. Most frustrations related to the internet are rooted in poor signal around the home, and the WiFi Mesh is our solution. Anywhere in the house, our subscribers get seamless WiFi coverage without any additional cost,” Supnet said.

For users looking for a reliable plan to cater to their basic internet needs, SKY Fiber still offers its 20Mbps Plan maintained at the affordable price of P999 per month. An Unli Broadband Plan of up to 30 Mbps (P1,299/month) and Unli Broadband + HD Cable TV Plan of up to 40Mbps (P1,699/month) are also new offerings that won’t break the bank.

As a treat for those who subscribe to the new Super Speed Plans within February 1 to April 30, SKY Fiber is offering free and lowered installation fees. Select plans also get a free speed boost until April 30. The boosted speed will depend on the chosen plan. For example, subscribers of the 50Mbps Plan can experience up to 75Mbps until the end of April at no additional cost.

Aside from having new plans, SKY Fiber has made its highest speed plan of up to 200Mbps (P3,499/month) available in all SKY Fiber serviceable areas, which are Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, GenSan, and Zamboanga.

Visit mysky.com.ph/skyfiber to apply for these new fiber-fast plans. Existing SKY Fiber subscribers can continue to enjoy their current plans or choose to switch to the new plans.

What’s new on HBO GO – July 2021

At the midpoint of the year, HBO Go brings the heavyweights in star power and stories with this month’s exclusive premieres.

No Sudden Movespremieres on Friday, July 2

Set in 1954 Detroit, this Steven Soderbergh-helmed film centers on a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them – and for what ultimate purpose – weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city.

The star-studded film features Don Cheadle (“Avengers: End Game”, “Hotel Rwanda”), Benicio Del Toro (“Sicario”, “The Usual Suspects”), David Harbour (“Suicide Squad”, “Stranger Things”), Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”, “The Town”) , Amy Seimetz (“Upstream Color”, “Sun Don’t Shine”), Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy”, “George of the Jungle”), Kieran Culkin (HBO’s “Succession”, “Igby Goes Down”), Noah Jupe (HBO’s “The Undoing”, “Honey Boy”), Craig muMs Grant (“Dark Water, “Side Effects”), Julia Fox (“Uncut Gems”, “Day by Day”), Frankie Shaw (“SMILF”, “Too Legit”), with Ray Liotta (“Goodfellas”, “Narc”) and Bill Duke (“Predator”, “Commando”).

Gossip Girl – premieres July 8

Developed by showrunner Joshua Safran, a writer and executive producer on the original series, this extension of the pop culture classic takes us back to the Upper East Side finding a new generation of New York private school teens being introduced to social surveillance nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark. The series is based on the bestselling novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, developed by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage.

Gossip Girl explores just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years. The series stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith.

The White Lotus – premieres July 12, 9am

From Mike White (HBO’s “Enlightened”) comes a social satire set at an exclusive Hawaiian resort.

Starring Murray Bartlett (HBO’s “Looking”), Connie Britton (“Nashville”), Jennifer Coolidge (“2 Broke Girls”), Alexandra Daddario (HBO’s “True Detective”), Fred Hechinger (“Eighth Grade”), Jake Lacy (HBO’s “Girls”), Brittany O’Grady (“Little Voice”), Natasha Rothwell (HBO’s “Insecure”), Sydney Sweeney (HBO’s “Euphoria”) and Steve Zahn (HBO’s “Treme”), this six-episode limited series follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travellers, the hotel’s cheerful employees and the idyllic locale itself.

Joss Whedon-helmed Victorian period drama “The Nevers” premieres on HBO and HBO GO this April

If you’re looking for girl power on TV, HBO’s got exactly what you need!

Its newest six-episode series, “The Nevers,” premieres this April on HBO and HBO GO. Renowned creator of ground-breaking TV series such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Firefly” Joss Whedon served as its writer, director, executive producer and showrunner.

In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the “Touched”: people – mostly women – who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities – some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces – to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.

At Comic-Con 2018, Whedon explained the show’s title:

They, themselves are not called that [The Nevers] in the show. It’s a phrase that’s meant to evoke a sort of reaction to their oddity, to what is considered unnatural. The idea that you should never be like this, you should never have existed. Something is not the way it should be, and you don’t have the right to have whatever weird power or ability that you have. And that idea, that some people are not of the natural order, is fascinating to me. I don’t agree with it. But to me, it’s one of those things where you take something negative, and you wear it as a badge of honor, basically. Certain things could never happen – they’re happening. And the people they’re happening to are taking their place in the world.

The ensemble cast also includes Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sawar, Anna Devlin, Viola Prettejohn, Ella Smith, Nick Frost and Ben Chaplin.

Curious yet? Check out the episode synopses for what you can expect from this series.

Episode 1: “Pilot”

Monday, 12 April at 9am

Series premiere. London, 1899. Three years after an inexplicable event suddenly equips them with extraordinary abilities, Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) work to protect their kind from widespread, deepening antipathy. Meanwhile, police inspector Frank Mundi (Ben Chaplin) investigates a string of murders at the hands of a reportedly Touched and highly dangerous serial killer named Maladie (Amy Manson).

Episode 2: “Exposure”

Monday, 19 April at 9am

With the city reeling from Maladie’s (Amy Manson) opera debut, Mundi (Ben Chaplin) takes a personal stake in tracking her down, while Amalia (Laura Donnelly) launches an investigation of her own. Meanwhile, the charitable Lavinia Bidlow (Olivia Williams) seeks to destigmatize the Touched at a society event, Hugo Swann (James Norton) enlists Lavinia’s younger brother Augie (Tom Riley) to help monetize his illicit enterprise, and a deranged doctor (Denis O’Hare) conducts a series of experiments.

Episode 3: “Ignition”

Monday, 26 April at 9am

Penance (Ann Skelly) creates an amplifier to spread Mary’s (Eleanor Tomlinson) hope-inspiring song across the city – but first, Mary (Tomlinson) must find her elusive voice. As danger mounts against her group, Amalia (Laura Donnelly) propositions an unlikely ally and sets out to expand the Orphanage’s reach. Swann (James Norton) further entangles Augie (Tom Riley) and Mundi (Ben Chaplin) in his business affairs.

Episode 4: “Undertaking”

Monday, 3 May at 9am

While Mundi (Ben Chaplin) seeks justice, Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and her most trusted advisors make a list of potential enemies. Harriet (Kiran Sonia Sawar), Primrose (Anna Devlin), and the other Orphans attempt to decipher a message. Later, Amalia (Donnelly) exposes an unexpected threat.

Episode 5: “Hanged”

Monday, 10 May at 9am

As the city buzzes with anticipation over a pending execution, Penance (Ann Skelly) grapples with a moral calling at odds with Amalia’s (Laura Donnelly) plan. With the two women at a crossroads, the Orphans must decide whom to follow.

Episode 6: “True” (Part One Finale)

Monday, 17 May at 9am

After Amalia’s (Laura Donnelly) origin story is revealed, a long-awaited reunion crystallizes the Orphans’ mission.

While the series was created by Whedon, he announced that he was stepping down from the project in November 2020. In his statement after his departure, he wrote:

This year of unprecedented challenges has impacted my life and perspective in ways I could never have imagined, and while developing and producing The Nevers has been a joyful experience, I realize that the level of commitment required moving forward, combined with the physical challenges of making such a huge show during a global pandemic, is more than I can handle without the work beginning to suffer. I am genuinely exhausted, and am stepping back to martial my energy towards my own life, which is also at the brink of exciting change. I am deeply proud of the work we have done; I’m grateful to all my extraordinary cast and collaborators, and to HBO for the opportunity to shape yet another strange world. Finn and Jake return to the Land of Ooo in Adventure Time special

The Emmy and Peabody Award-Winning series Adventure Time returns to Asia with Adventure Time: Distant Lands – four new one-hour original specials. The first, entitled BMO, is now available to stream on HBO GO.

These long-awaited new specials will continue Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time stories that captured imaginations and introduced unlikely heroes and best-buds – Finn the dog and Jake the human – who traversed the mystical Land of Ooo and encountered its colourful inhabitants.

BMO follows the lovable little robot from Adventure Time. When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is!

En route to Mars, BMO gets sucked into a wormhole and crash lands on an unknown alien world. On this decaying distant land, BMO finds competing alien races mired in a conflict over dwindling resources and appoints himself sheriff of this seemingly lawless outpost.

He deputises a reluctant new friend, Y5, but Y5’s family has other plans for BMO: complete dismantling! Realising BMO’s importance, Y5 joins forces with our robot hero to save this alien world and uncover the real reason her people are on the brink of extinction.

In Southeast Asia, the remaining three episodes will be available on Cartoon Network and HBO GO in 2021.

Obsidian features Marceline and Princess Bubblegum as they journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom—and deep into their tumultuous past—to prevent an earth-shaking catastrophe.

Wizard City follows Peppermint Butler, starting over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?

Together Again brings Finn and Jake together again, to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.

Created by Pendleton Ward and executive produced by Adam Muto, Adventure Time is a critically decorated show that garnered numerous entertainment awards and cultivated a generation of talent who have helmed such hits as Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, and Clarence. Adventure Time: Distant Lands is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and is an HBO Max Original series.
