Guess what, foodies? Kenny Rogers Roasters has new menu items that will give a truly egg-ceptional eggs-perience: the Salted Egg Roast, the Unfried Fried Chicken and the Unfried Fried Chicken Bun.

Our all-time favorite Kenny Rogers Roasters dishes were given an egg-citing makeover, elevating them with salted egg flavors to bring about eggs-tasy with every bite!

Egg puns aside, this new line incorporates one of our well-loved ingredients: the salted egg!

From the time it was introduced into our shores when our ancient forebears traded with the Chinese, the salted egg has become a staple addition in many of our much-loved native dishes, adding a rich and exotic flavor to our cuisine.

Today, fast-food chain Kenny Rogers Roasters incorporates this ingredient into its healthy chicken variants, such as:

Salted Egg Roast.

Generous chicken pieces marinated in special herbs and spices, roasted to juicy and smokey perfection, then garnished with salted egg powder and salted egg sauce. It is best enjoyed with steamed rice, your favorite Kenny Rogers Roasters side dishes and corn muffin.

Salted Egg Unfried Fried Chicken.

A healthier and more exotic alternative to fried chicken, this consist of chicken pieces cooked through an oven with circulating hot air instead of being deep-fried, cooking the meat in its natural oil. The resulting juicy and crispy chicken pieces are then given an generous coating of salted egg powder and served with salted egg sauce. Here and there: Shake Shack

Oh yes, burger joints do abound all over the world and diners have their choice of where to get their burger fix.

The challenge, really, is for the burger establishment to have something extra going for it that will drive people to seek it out, try its offerings and (hopefully!) come back for more.

While it started out as a roadside food stall (that didn’t even sell burgers!) in Manhattan, Shake Shack has evolved into a burger eatery with a fine dining mentality, where high quality versions of the usual burger joint offerings are served up in a more upscale setting.

During a family trip to the US nearly three years ago, we decided to have our lunch at ShakeShack’s outlet along Hollywood Boulevard.

It seemed to be a popular joint as we had to line up for a few minutes before getting to the counter.

We tried an assortment of burgers such as the ShackBurger (ShakeShack’s famous cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce), the Shroom Burger (crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melter muenster and cheddar cheese topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce), and the SmokeShack (cheeseburger with Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShakeSauce) which we all found to be very tasty and filling enough to fuel us for the rest of our sightseeing that day.

Of course our order wouldn’t have been complete without ShakeShacks crinkle-cut fries and shakes.

It was among the foodie experiences that we had in the States that we wish could be replicated back home in the Philippines.

And wouldn’t you know it: by the time we got back to Manila, Shake Shack was already here!

It opened its first store in Bonifacio Global City in May 2019, a second branch in SM Mega Fashion Hall in December of the same year, a third one in Greenbelt Makati in October 2020, and finally, a fourth outlet in Alabang Town Center in July 2021.

Well, life got in the way so we haven’t been able to visit any of these local outlets from the time we got back, until Hubby and I went on an errand run in SM Megamall recently.

There, we espied Shake Shack’s sprawling premises while we were walking around, and decided to have lunch right then and there.

While I decided to go for a ShackBurger, Hubby went for a Chick’n Shack (crispy-fried chicken breast with lettuce, pickles and buttermilk herb mayo).

To complete our meal, we also got some crinkle-cut fries and softdrinks.

Because of COVID restrictions, there were not a lot of people in the place (only fully vaccinated people can dine in) and just a fraction of the store’s capacity is allowed to be used.

Now that the restrictions are loosening, I hope I can bring the kids over soon so we can relive one of our fun-filled adventures.

Nashville-style chicken from Ray’s Hot Chicken, Malate

Nashville, Tennessee is the home of country music, Taylor Swift and a special kind of fried chicken.

The famous Nashville Hot Chicken got its moniker from its flaming spiciness, owed to the cayenne pepper-infused paste applied to the fried chicken.

It’s said to have a pretty interesting history too. Back in the 1930’s, the girlfriend of womanizer Thornton Prince III served him fried chicken for breakfast after his night of carousing. She heavily doused the chicken with cayenne pepper, hoping that the resulting dish will be too hot for the Lothario. However, he ended up liking it so much that he and his brothers developed their own recipe and opened the first many hot chicken joints in Nashville.

Today, the Nashville Hot Chicken is considered one of the city’s most popular attractions. This dish is commonly served as a freshly fried quarter chicken breast, doused in a cayenne pepper paste on top of two bread slices with a side of pickles and the diner’s choice of sauce among varying degrees of hotness. In the spirit of Thornton’s love for late-night shenanigans, the Nashville Hot Chicken proved to be popular among late diners.

The good news is that we Pinoys don’t have to go halfway across the world to get a taste of this Nashville import, thanks to the newly launched Ray’s Hot Chicken. With a dine-in and delivery store along Taft Avenue (right next to sister-store Zark’s Burger) and delivery outlets in Eastwood City, BF and Makati, Ray’s Hot Chicken is now ready to serve the biggest and baddest chicks to the metro.
