Handcrafted brunch creations at Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

In Kapitolyo, Pasig’s foodie haven, a new mecca for brunch-aholics and more has just opened its doors.

Called Artesa Deli + Coffee (and named after the Catalan word for “handcrafted”), this cafe elevates the casual and leisurely brunch out into an artform.

Founded by three friends – Mikho Villarosa, Edrian Chua and Jef Lim – Artesa elevates seeks to be Kapitolyo’s one-stop shop for high-quality, curated yet reasonably priced coffee and food products.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

My friends from #WeLoveToEatPH and #SaanSaPH and I recently visited Artesa Deli + Coffee for a late brunch experience, where we were treated to:

Chimichurri Burger (Php175). A juicy patty of 100% US beef cooked to medium doneness topped with pickled cucumbers, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and house-made chimichurri sauce with a side of crispy fried wonton chips.

By the way, Artesa’s sandwiches are all buildable which means that you can customize your sandwich by adding-on items such as extra beef patties, fried chicken fillets, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, bacon strips or fried egg.

Tomato Gravy Rice with Chicken (Php220). A tender fillet of chicken is battered, panko-crusted and shallow-fried to a crispy golden brown before being placed on top of steamed rice drenched in a savory yet slightly tangy gravy of beef drippings, tomato and spices, then garnished with corn kernels.

For dessert, we had a a rich New York-style Cheesecake (Php160/slice), a decadent Chocolate Cake (Php160/slice) and a delightful Black & White Cookie (Php60/piece), all of which feature an artisanal quality. (Artesa also sells whole cakes; you just need to order them three days in advance.)

Upscale Burger and Fries at Pound by Todd English, SM Megamall

Burgers-and-fries have become a quick kind of meal to many, something to grab at a fast-food outlet to-go and gobble down at your office desk or while on your way to work.

Burgers at Pound by Todd English are not that kind of burgers. They are meant to be enjoyed at leisure, while relaxed amidst swanky surroundings.

Having been introduced to this restaurant by Hubby when we dined at its outlet in Eastwood City, I grabbed at the chance to get a taste of another of its burgers at its branch at SM Mega Fashion Hall.

We each ordered an Amsterdam Burger (Php280). Pound’s house ground beef patty is flame-grilled then served in soft , lightly toasted buns along with fried onions, a generous slice of pastrami, gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, mustard relish and Todd English’ signature sauce. With so many unusual ingredients, I took my time to relish the different flavors that each bite of my burger brings.

We also got some Good Ole’ Fries (Php90) to accompany our burgers. These are made from real potatoes and seasoned well to go well with Pound’s burger offerings.

If you want an upscale take on the staple burger and fries, Pound by Todd English is a good bet.

Quick Burger Break at Outback Steakhouse, Glorietta

As can be gleaned from its name, Outback Steakhouse is inspired by the hearty meals of burgers and barbecued meats in Australian cuisine.  Being a core component of the Australian diet, meat does take center stage in the restaurant’s menu: with Signature Steaks of various cuts cooked to order, Australian-themed appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and more.

As my daughter #ExhibitA and I were on our way to the grand opening of BLK513 in Glorietta, we decided to while away some time with some light lunch at the Glorietta branch of Outback Steakhouse, taking advantage of a Metrodeal offer that gave us Php500 worth of food for only Php299.

The place is not as full as we expected despite the lunch hour on a Saturday.  The ground floor dining area is for smokers but the second floor dining space is more geared towards families and non-smokers.  The darkwood floors and furniture give the place a masculine feel (quite appropriate for a steaks and grill place).

Outback Steakhouse, Glorietta

Outback Steakhouse, Glorietta

Light lunch fare and Outback steakhouse’ offerings do not usually go together but my daughter and I solved this dilemna by splitting an order Bacon Cheeseburger (Php499). This consisted of an Outback Steakhouse’ humungous ground beef burger patty, grilled to medium doneness per our request, topped with bacon, American cheese, pickles, onions, mayo, lettuce and tomato between warm fluffy burger buns, certainly juicy and meaty with every bite.  It is served with Aussie Fries, large fried potato wedges which helped make this meal filling enough for two.

Considering availing of the same Metrodeal offer?  Here are some friendly reminders:

  • Note the validity period of the Metrodeal voucher.  It may not be valid for use during holidays or special events.
  • You can only use a maximum of 8 vouchers per table per redemption.
  • Be sure to reserve your table before you go to the resto.

This Outback Steakhouse branch is located at the Ground Floor, Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Glorietta Complex, Makati City, open daily from 11am to 1am.  For reservations and inquiries, call +63 2 7298458.

Other branches are located at:

  • Ground Floor, ATC Corporate Center, Alabang, Muntinlupa (open Sundays to Thursdays from 11am to 10pm and Fridays to Saturdays 11am to 11pm; Tel: +63 2 7721844)
  • Blue Bay Walk, Macapagal Avenue Corner EDSA, Libertad, Pasay City (open Sundays to Thursdays from 11am to 10.30pm and Fridays to Saturdays 11am to 12midnight; Tel: +63 2 8931026)
  • Eastwood Citywalk 1, Libis, Quezon City (open Sundays to Thursdays from 10am to 11pm and Fridays to Saturdays 10am to 12midnight; Tel: +63 2 2773216)

Stylish and tasty burgers at Pound by Todd English, Eastwood City

While most of the burgers I encounter tend to be on the laidback and downhome in terms of ingredients and aesthetics, every once in a while, I get to encounter a few of these which are more of the trendy and stylish variety.

The burgers in Pound by Todd English are of the latter kind.

An offshoot of the burger station of the Todd English Food Hall in Bonifacio Global City, Pound by Todd English, follows brings a simple menu of reasonably priced burger hits that are sure to interest burger enthusiasts out there, while offering a cozy and stylish nook in which to indulge their burger cravings.

Its branch in Eastwood City Mall, in particular, follows the Prohibition Era aesthetics of of its other branches. Distressed white bricks on the walls provide a gorgeous backdrop to dark brown-upholstered seats, marble-topped tables and brass mugs. Copper lanterns and tea lights provide warm lighting for the diners and the food masterfully presented in wooden trays.

Hubby recommended going to Pound by Todd English branch for dinner during our family #Saturdate at Eastwood City with #ExhibitA, having already tried out its MOA branch with his officemates.

Our stylish burger dinner consisted of:

Onion Cube (Php90). Crispy battered onion rings shaped into an Instagram-friendly cube.

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

Amsterdam Burger (Php280). Pound’s house ground beef patty accompanied by fried onions, pastrami, Gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, mustard relish and T.E. Sauce.

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

Portobello Mushroom Sliders (Php280). Juicy mushrooms accompanied by caramelized onions, fried onions, lettuce, tomato and cilantro aioli. I don’t usually go for a resto’s vegetarian options but I found this quite flavorful and quite a welcome break from the heavier meals I’ve been indulging in lately.

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

Backyard Double Cheeseburger (Php380). Two ground beef patties accompanied by cheddar cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce, tomato and onion.

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

All the burgers were sandwiched inside Pound’s lightly toasted, soft burger buns which were marked with the resto’s signature pound sign (or should I say hashtag sign?). 🙂

Pound by Todd English, Eastwood

I wouldn’t mind returning to get myself more of these luxe burgers.

Chillin’ with chums at Chili’s, Tomas Morato

Fans of hearty Southwestern and Tex-Mex cuisine will not be disappointed with the fare offered at Chili’s.  It is well-known for burgers, ribs and fajitas – basically items that go well together with beer and barkadas (friends).

In a recent dinner/get-together with friends held at this chain’s Tomas Morato branch, I was able to sample its offerings after nearly fifteen since my last visit to the exact same branch albeit with a different group of friends.

At first, I had trouble finding parking space as all the ones directly in front of the resto were occupied.  I had to circle the block again to find parking space some distance away.  I was supposed to call the resto to inquire about parking space (yes, in this area, this is a valid concern) but the number listed on Zomato was not working.

The resto has a casual, chill and cheery vibe, lots of seating room, with friendly staff who are quick to assist with our requests.

Of course we ordered Tostada Chips (Php395) which were crisp, fun to nibble on while chatting and, best of all, refillable. We partnered it with Skillet Queso (Php295), a rich and velvety cheese dip that went absolutely perfect with our chips and salsa.

Our hearty dinner consisted of Craft Burger Bites (Php495). These are four mini-cheeseburgers with flavorful American smoked beef bacon, sauteed onions and ranch sauce.l, which the group divided among ourselves. Also for sharing is an order of the Ultimate Dipper (Php750), a sumptious sampler of Chili’s best-selling appetizers – chicken fingers, buffalo wings, egg rolls, calamares and onion rings – served with five dipping sauces.

The most health-conscious in our group ordered a Buffalo Chicken Salad (Php295), chicken strips tossed in Buffalo Sauce (so you know this dish has quite a kick!), with bacon bits, bits of bleu cheese and ranch dressing.

For dessert, we shared a Skillet Cookie (Php385), a confection consisting of a warm, enormous chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge.

The whole meal was a feast of fresh and hearty flavors that complemented our group’s long talks and frequent laughter.

This Chili’s branch is located at the corner of Tomas Morato Ave and Scout Fernandez in Quezon City.
