Designed to be a place where kids can hang out and enjoy their favorite food, it can also be a place for adults to give in to their playful side.

Together with my officemates, I set out to allow my inner child free rein over lunch at Scout’s Honor.

There, we munched on kid- and kid-at-heart-friendly fare which included:

Crackers, while waiting for our order.

Japan’s MOS Burger aims to take a bite out of the PH fast food market, opens first store on February 27

In a market dominated by western-style burgers, MOS Burger will introduce a distinctly Japanese flavor to burger-loving Filipinos as it opens its first branch in the Philippines this February 27, 2020 in Robinsons Galleria.

“We heard that Filipinos love burgers as much as they love Japanese food. In introducing MOS Burger to the Philippines, we are giving them two of the things that they most love. We can’t wait for them to try our Japanese-style burgers,” said MOS Burger Philippines president Araki Masahide.

During a pop-up store event last month, MOS Burger introduced its version of a signature cheese burger with meat sauce and the original yakiniku rice burger. Some of the items on the menu for the first Philippine branch are the following: yakiniku rice burger, MOS cheese burger, wagyu burger, seafood tempura rice burger, and natsumi, a lettuce wrap burger.

As a way to welcome the dining public to its first store in the country, MOS Burger will give out gifts to its first 50 customers on opening day. In-store surprises also await customers every hour on February 27. The store’s operating hours will be from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Founded in Tokyo in 1972, MOS Burger is ranked number two in sales among all burger chains in Japan. It has around 1,300 stores in Japan and almost 400 stores overseas.

MOS stands for mountain, ocean, and sun—three elements that symbolize the company’s commitment to good service and how it trains its employees to approach their work. The mountain symbolizes its thrust to “stand tall and firm as a mountain.” The ocean, meanwhile, symbolizes its aim “to have a heart as big and generous as the ocean”, and the sun stands for “undying passion.”

MOS Burger also adheres to the old Japanese proverb “ishoku dogen”, which means food and medicine come from the same source so we could maintain our health through a balanced diet.

MOS Burger Philippines was formed in 2019 to oversee the local operations of MOS Burger. The company is the result of a joint venture agreement between MOS Food Services Inc. of Japan and Tokyo Coffee Holdings of the Young family of General Milling Corporation.

Its aggressive expansion plan in the Philippines will see the opening of several branches in Metro Manila this year. Apart from the one in Robinsons Galleria, MOS Burger stores will be opened in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, One Eastwood Tower 2 and Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City, O-Square in Greenhills, San Juan, and Robinsons Manila.

For more updates about MOS Burger Philippines’ opening, follow its Facebook page and Instagram account.

Get the romance burnin’ this February at 390 Degrees, Entertainment City

At last January is over and done with. Now, let’s get ourselves in gear for the month of hearts – February!

And what better way to celebrate this month than to spend time with our Significant Other in a special place, one that can provide not only a venue for a romantic outing but also good food that can make the experience truly memorable?

Well, venture into the still seemingly uncharted Aseana City Business Park in Paranaque and there you will find the newly opened 390 Degrees.

Operated by the same team that brought about Ombu Kusina in Quezon City, 390 Degrees brings the same hearty servings and imaginative takes on comfort food in an elegantly well-appointed setting that Ombu Kusina does.

Here, though, the restaurant’s concept centers around its charcoal brick oven which influences all of its dishes. In fact, the resto’s name 390 Degrees refers to the temperature that restaurant’s oven must maintain to produce its delectable dishes.

In a special foodie meetup hosted by 390 Degrees’ head chef Mark Griffin Oraiz and marketing head Tammy Lim, my fellow food bloggers and I were treated to a sneak peek into the resto’s exciting Valentine’s offering.

Curious yet? Imagine dining with your special someone on a special meal for two which consist of:

Tomato Soup with Ravioli. Thick soup of pureed tomatoes topped with spinach-cheese ravioli to warm your tummies and your hearts.

Food fast and affordable at BBX, Glorietta

Lowbrow Casual Restaurants, the company behind restaurant brands such as Fowlbread, Beefier and Bad Bird, has recently launched its new store at Glorietta.

BBX was originally intended to be an extension of the group’s fried chicken chain Bad Bird (with BBX standing in for “Bad Bird Express”) but it has outgrown its old concept and evolved its own identity.

BBX, Glorietta

BBX, Glorietta

BBX is now a semi-self-service restaurant that provides mall-goers an alternative to other fast-food places. This is the place to be for great-tasting and afforadably priced fried chicken, burgers and rice meals.

BBX, Glorietta

BBX, Glorietta

BBX, Glorietta

Oh, and being self-service means that you fetch your own condiments, clean up after yourself and pack your own leftovers for takeaways. (So parents, do take your kids here to teach them the value of CLAYGO.)

During a recent visit together with my foodie friends, I was able to try out some of BBX’s offerings, which included:

Fried Chicken.

Fried Chicken Plate (Php179). Juicy and crispy chicken deep-fried Southern-style to golden brown perfection and served piping-hot with house-made gravy. The fried chicken piece is big, satisfying and well-complemented by the gravy. This is available in safe and spicy variants. Diners also have the option to go boneless just by adding (Php20).

BBX, Glorietta

BBX, Glorietta

BB Crispers (Php259). Crispy fried boneless chicken thighs in a garlic and butter glaze. A variant in better than buffalo glaze is also available.

BBX, Glorietta

Sandwiches.

Ruben Sandwich (Php289). Corned beef, pickled onion and cheese between toasted sourdough. I’m not a fan of corned beef sandwiches but the pickled onion and the sourdough give this sandwich a special kind of taste that I like.

BBX, Glorietta

BBX, Glorietta

Crispy Fish Sandwich (Php246). Deep-fried fillets of fish, sliced tomatoes and shredded cabbage in creamy sauce in a fluffy artisanal burger bun.

Side Dish.

Corn and Cream Cheese (Php89). A lovely blend of sweet corn and cream cheese which serves a great accompaniment to any of BBX’ rice plates or sandwiches.

Diners also have the option to add this or any other side dish plus iced tea to any rice plate or sandwich for just Php99.

Lunchin’ on the Php55 Peso Menu at Pound, SM North EDSA

At first glance, you would think that Pound by Todd English is too classy to be a burger joint.

Of course, its stylish and well-appointed interiors are a far cry from the usual formica tables, upholstered chairs and greasy floors of the run-of-the-mill burger places.

Pound, SM North EDSA

Nope, this swanky resto is where you can enjoy expertly crafter burgers and sliders in leisure and style.

But guess what: you can dine here quite affordably too!

My officemates and I recently ventured away from the office for lunch and as soon we caught sight of this poster, we knew exactly where we would be having our midday repast.

Pound, SM North EDSA

Also known as the Dollar Menu (because Php55 converts roughly to USD1), the Special Php55 Menu presented us the opportunity to treat ourselves to some of Pound by Todd English’s well-crafted offerings for just Php55 each.

We took advantage of this offer and got ourselves some yummy eats:

Tomato Cream Pasta. A half-serving of pasta in a creamy tomato-based sauce.

Pound, SM North EDSA

Truffle Ketchup Fries. Well-seasoned French fries accompanied by ketchup in truffle oil.

Pound, SM North EDSA

Onion Cube. Lightly battered, thinly sliced onion rings deep-fried to a crispy golden brown and shaped into a cube. It is served with a Todd English sweet spice sauce.

Pound, SM North EDSA

My officemate also got herself a Pound for Pound (Php195) which consists of sampler of TE Slider and a #Crispy Chicken Slider.

Handcrafted brunch creations at Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

In Kapitolyo, Pasig’s foodie haven, a new mecca for brunch-aholics and more has just opened its doors.

Called Artesa Deli + Coffee (and named after the Catalan word for “handcrafted”), this cafe elevates the casual and leisurely brunch out into an artform.

Founded by three friends – Mikho Villarosa, Edrian Chua and Jef Lim – Artesa elevates seeks to be Kapitolyo’s one-stop shop for high-quality, curated yet reasonably priced coffee and food products.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

My friends from #WeLoveToEatPH and #SaanSaPH and I recently visited Artesa Deli + Coffee for a late brunch experience, where we were treated to:

Chimichurri Burger (Php175). A juicy patty of 100% US beef cooked to medium doneness topped with pickled cucumbers, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and house-made chimichurri sauce with a side of crispy fried wonton chips.

By the way, Artesa’s sandwiches are all buildable which means that you can customize your sandwich by adding-on items such as extra beef patties, fried chicken fillets, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, bacon strips or fried egg.

Tomato Gravy Rice with Chicken (Php220). A tender fillet of chicken is battered, panko-crusted and shallow-fried to a crispy golden brown before being placed on top of steamed rice drenched in a savory yet slightly tangy gravy of beef drippings, tomato and spices, then garnished with corn kernels.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

For dessert, we had a a rich New York-style Cheesecake (Php160/slice), a decadent Chocolate Cake (Php160/slice) and a delightful Black & White Cookie (Php60/piece), all of which feature an artisanal quality. (Artesa also sells whole cakes; you just need to order them three days in advance.)

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

We were also given our choice of drinks which included:

Espresso Soda (Php165). This is perfect for those who like to taste of coffee with a slight fizz.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

Matcha Latte (Php150 for hot). A rich comforting drink made with real matcha powder.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

Iced Mocha (Php150). A masterful blend of coffee and chocolate, and, thankfully for me, may even be sweetened some more with the addition of honey syrup.

Homemade Iced Tea (Php75). This drink may be served sweetened or unsweetened.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

Orange Julius (Php90). This drink is reminiscent of the beverage popular when I was a kid.

Artesa Deli + Coffee, Kapitolyo

Artesa’s menu is still small but well-crafted such that each item is a masterpiece, it’s taste and quality assured. These are perfect for a leisurely brunch, a quick snack in the afternoon, or any time of the day you want a tasty treat.

Artesa also aims to highlight the quality of local micro-entrepreneurs: it sells jars of Spanish sardines, organically grown mushrooms with tinapa or tuyo, as well as spicy and garlicky cuttlefish crunch, among others. 8 Reasons you’ll want to take your familly aboard Anchor Point Diner, San Rafael

Ahoy there, mumshies!

Feel like you might want to take a break from always running a tight ship and treat the family to some tasty burgers, pizzas and pastas?

Well, then… When you dock at the newly opened eatery along San Rafael Street in Mandaluyong’s Barangay Plainview, you will find plenty for the family to love.

Anchor Point Diner, San Rafael

One: The resto’s interiors leading to a seaside adventure.

The resto is situated in a converted two-story house festooned with nautical-inspired furniture and artwork, inspired by Chef Junjie Templo’s stint as a seaman chef and further refined by the San Rafael branch co-owner Cathy Donato – Miaque’s design sensibilities.

The best thing about the resto’s design is that diners can interact with the decor. Take a pic of yourself as a ship captain in the outdoor deck, make-believe you’re climbing up waterfalls in the hallway, or let your kids have a go in the rocking horse. If you let your inmer child out, there won’t be a dull moment here.

Plus, check out the washroom with a wall-to-wall painting of a seaside dock! Who would have thought going to a resto’s restroom would be so entertaining!

Two: Yummy munchies while waiting for your meal.

Start of your meal with some appetizers – platters of fries or nachos with oodles of cheese, peppers, onions, meat and other toppings!

Three: Its Burger Varieties.

Pinoy families have grown to love burgers and here, there’s enough variety and affordably priced items to have you and your fam coming back for more. Check these out: the crunchy chicken sandwich Captain’s Crave (Php109), fresh veggies and all-beef Anchor Point Burger (Php129), burger-with-bacon Quarterdeck (Php139) and so much more!

Four: Its Chicken Meals.

There’s nothing like chomping down on a juicy piece of chicken and at Anchor Point Diner, there’s plenty to choose from: from its original recipe Chicken Fritoz (Php99), savory Garlic Parmesan (Php119), spicy Texas Wild Wings (Php109) and my new fave Teriyaki Chicken (Php109).

Feeling extra hungry? Get a Bucket of Ten for only Php250! That should fill up the fam’s tummies!

Five: Pizzas and Pastas

Hearty and filling, these crunchy-yet-chewy thin-crust pizzas (made with hand-kneaded dough and baked fresh everyday) and yummy pastas will sate the fam’s hunger while making your taste buds happy!

Choose from two pizza sizes – Sailor at 9 inches and Captain at 12 inches – and from four yummy flavors – English Margherita (Php149 | Php199), Hawaiian Sunset (Php169 | Php219), Vegan Garden (Php179 | Php229), and of course, my absolute fave, Triple Cheese (Php189 | Php239).

Pastas come in two flavors: Shrimp Olio (Php129) and Italian Bolognese (Php99).

Six: Best value combo meals!

Despite the ala carte dishes being priced quite affordably already, these are further mixed and matched into combo meals with iced tea that not only give you a variety of flavors in one complete meal, but also super savings. Prices for single-person combo meals range from Php129 to Php259.

Plus, a family of four can dine on a combo of chicken, pasta, pizza, rice and drinks for only Php550, while a group of six can do the same for only Php859.

There’s so much food variation when I dined here, I nearly went into a food coma! (Special thanks to my fellow foodies who pulled me back from the brink, hehehe!)

Seven: Cap off your meal with decadent dessert frappes!

There’s a special treat for the family member who has a sweet tooth: dessert drinks in your choice among three yummy flavors at only Php95 – Rock & Load for chocolate lovers, Strawberry Kiss for strawberry fans, and the frappe that truly captured the taste of summer at sea with its zesty sweetness and refreshing cucumber juice, Sweet Innocence.
