Rediscovering Filipino Cuisine at Kingsford Cafe’s Filipino Food Festival

Over the past few years, Filipino food has been slowly but surely getting the recognition it deserves as a truly world-class cuisine. Characterized by Spanish, Chinese and Indian influences as well as regional cultures, Filipino cuisine has been noted to offer rich diversity and bold flavors.

However, most Pinoys tend to take their homegrown dishes for granted. That doesn’t apply to Kingsford Hotel’s Executive Chef Angelo Chubby Timban. A seasoned chef with accolades in international cooking competitions, Chef Chubby is known for his creativity and passion for the craft. His culinary philosophy is deeply rooted in his Filipino upbringing, yet redefined through modern European techniques and contemporary Asian executions.

This drove him and his team to launch a Filipino food festival.

In celebration of Filipino cuisine

Kingsford Cafe’s Filipino Food Festival, an all-you-can-eat buffet held Friday and Saturday evenings this June, offers a feast that is as much about rediscovering one’s roots as it is about indulging in a spectacular array of dishes from across the archipelago.

Chef Chubby’s vision for the Filipino Food Festival is to celebrate the rich produce of the Philippines and its multicultural influences to trigger both delicious nostalgia and an unforgettable dining experience among diners and hotel guests.

A homey yet elegant setting for Filipino culinary explorations

Located at the ground floor of Kingsford Hotel Manila, the Kingsford Cafe is fusion of modern elegance and cultural homage. Since its opening in late 2021, the hotel’s cafe has become a favored destination for both travelers and locals seeking a unique culinary experience. The cafe’s contemporary design and cozy interiors, complemented by beautiful wall art, create an inviting ambiance perfect for enjoying a meal that celebrates Filipino heritage.

A journey through flavors of the Philippines

The festival is more than just a buffet; it’s a comprehensive tour of the Philippines through its diverse regional cuisines. Guests are invited to explore dishes from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, each offering a unique taste of the country’s culinary landscape.

Fortunately, I was able to take this delicious journey together with my foodie friends.

By bringing together diverse regional dishes, Chef Angelo and his team have created an experience that not only delights the palate but also warms the heart. Whether you’re rediscovering old favorites or trying something new, the festival is a must-visit for anyone looking to connect with their roots through the universal language of food.

Best Manila hotels and resorts for weekend staycation

Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is a place where millions of people come every year. There are multiple reasons why people decide on that move. Some of them are huge buildings, amazing international and traditional specialties, welcoming locals, and so on. Yet, if you have never been to Manila before, then you probably wonder which hotel and resort are the best.

If you struggle to find the best place, we recommend you continue reading our guide. We will try to briefly analyze the best hotels in Manila and let you decide which one suits you the most. Let’s go!

Solaire Resort

Solaire Resort is one of the first-ever hotel resorts built in Manila. Yet, this old resort has a modern interior design that will make most people speechless. While staying there, you will get the chance to enjoy Red Lantern Chinese Restaurant and Macallan Whiskey Bar. Also, if you want to additionally relax, there is a luxurious spa available for all the guests of the hotel.

We have left the best thing for the end. All the guests will also have the chance to test their luck at a casinothat is part of the resort. Believe it or not, the total size of the Solaire casino is around 200,000 square feet. There, you can find more than 1,200 slot machines and around 300 tables.

Indeed, you can also enjoy some great online casinos in the Philippines, like the ones mentioned on this recommended site, and enjoy gambling from the comfort of a hotel room. That way, you can avoid crowds that are usually present there but miss the opportunity to hang out with other tourists and locals. It is up to you to decide which option suits you the most.

Okada Manila

The owner of this resort is Kazuo Okada. If you want to enjoy the lavish indulgences, then this place is a great option for you. In one place, you will find a wellness center, a sun-drenched pool deck, a spa, and a casino. We have to admit the prices at this resort are a bit higher compared to the previous ones on our list.

Yet, be sure that the comfort and relaxation you will get is worth every penny!

City of Dreams

Resorts like this one really do ensure that you turn some of your dreams into reality. City of Dreams is a resort that includes three different hotels. Their names are Hyatt Hotel, Nobu Hotel Manila and Nuwa Manila. This resort is located on Roxas Boulevard, one of the most luxurious destinations within the town.

For those that do not know, it is located near Manila Bay, another popular destination among tourists. A second after you reach this resort, you will notice that each of the hotels has some specific charm. Each one provides a high level of entertainment, relaxation and comfort.

EDSA Shangri-La Manila

Shangri-La Group is a business organization that possesses three luxurious hotels in Manilla. As you can guess, this is one of them. Opposite the previous hotels and resorts, this one is located in the farther north of the town. The main source of relaxation for guests is the lavish spa treatments supported by tropical flora surroundings.

By reading reviews online, you can conclude on your own that this place looks like heaven!

Manila Prince Hotel

Do you want to experience the taste of old Beijing? Coming to this hotel would be a great choice for people having such a desire. You will get the chance to enjoy old Beijing food. However, that’s not all! Apart from an amazing restaurant, you will also get the chance to enjoy an outdoor pool and banquet hall.

As part of the hotel, there is also a business center and a few meeting rooms. That means this hotel can also be a great choice for entrepreneurs and people involved in the business world. Ultimately, the hotel is pet-friendly, which allows you to have some memorable moments together with your pet.

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila

Would you want to stay in one of the oldest resort hotels in Manila? Sofitel has a long tradition, and it has managed to keep and upgrade its quality over the years. Before everything, we have to highlight the view of Manila Bay, which is exceptional! Even people who have never been to Manila know how crowded this city is.

Yet, this hotel somehow managed to keep noise at a very low level. You won’t feel like you are in a huge town; the atmosphere will remind you of those small Filipino beach towns that are always quiet and peaceful. In addition, guests can enjoy the spa and pool during the entire day.

We have tried to highlight the resorts that will meet everyone’s tastes and expectations. Each one has a specific charm, which is why they deserve to be on this list. Whichever resort you choose, be sure your weekend will be full of joy, relaxation and entertainment!

The blend of gold, natural tones, and vibrant reds created a visually stunning display echoing the true essence of the season. Shirakawa-go Village

Hidden in the mountains and forests of neighboring Gifu and Toyama prefectures, the Historical Village of Shirakawa-go is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its unique Gassho-zukuri architecture, characterized by thatched roofs shaped like praying hands, is extremely rare in Japan. These houses were constructed without nails or metal materials, using only natural resources like wood and straw. The village, isolated for a long time due to its location, retains dozens of historical houses and a glimpse into a bygone era.

A Room to Remember

I shared one of the Courtyard Nagoya’s Deluxe Room Twin with my fellow blogger, Mommy Sigrid. The 28-square-meter room was spacious and thoughtfully designed, housing two spacious and comfy double beds, a mini-fridge (to hold our munchables for our late-night cravings), a living/sitting area with a view of the Hori River, and equipped high-speed wireless internet to keep us connected. As we relaxed in the room, we entertained ourselves and sought inspiration from Nagoya travel blogs on Youtube with the 55-inch LCD TV.

The Deluxe Room Twin is perfect for up to two guests, and the featherbed and duvet on the double beds ensured a cozy night’s sleep. The room featured air conditioning to keep us comfortable and USB outlets for all our charging needs. The bathroom was no less impressive, with a shower/tub combination, a lighted makeup mirror, a hairdryer, and plush slippers to pamper us. For those who need to catch up on work, the room comes with a desk and writing/work area with electrical outlets.

A Look into the World’s Busiest Airports and Their Operations

When the COVID-19 pandemic happened, travel came to a crashing halt. Airports that were usually one of the busiest of places in cities and urban areas became ghost towns where only the most essential travels are permitted to go through.

These days, air travel is back in full swing, as it makes up for the lost 2 to 3 years of business. If you’re a student pilot in flight school, your prospects are assured. In fact, airports are once again bustling places and charged with excitement and promise of new destinations.

Travelers, packed and ready for adventure, are headed off to different airports around the world to do some revenge traveling. According to the latest figures by the International Air Transport Association, the available seat capacity globally has nearly recovered, boasting 96.1 percent of pre-pandemic levels. This means airports are bound to get even more crowded with tourists and travelers.

If you’re curious to learn about the world’s 6 busiest airports and their operations, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s take a look at these most visited gateways.

1. Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL)

At number one, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, or ATL is touted to be the world’s busiest airport since 1998. In 2022, it served a staggering 93.7 million passengers. As one of the gateways to the US, Atlanta is certainly one of the most preferred.

In terms of size, the airport covers 1,900 hectares of land. Moreover, it comes with 5 parallel runways. While it only has 2 terminals, the airport has 192 gates that passengers go through every day.

But what truly sets ATL apart is its commitment to offering an exceptional travel experience. From a wide array of dining options to a shopper’s paradise with both high-end brands and local crafts, ATL caters to all tastes. However, to truly conquer this behemoth, planning ahead is essential. After all, the key to a smooth journey through ATL lies in precise navigation and pre-flight preparation.

2. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

In 2022, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) recorded handling 73.4 million passengers. True to its Texas roots, the airport boasts 5 large terminals and 174 gates. Furthermore, it spans a whopping 6,963 hectares, making it one of the largest airports on the planet.

DFW is another gateway airport into the U.S., which offers a warm Texan welcome to travelers. In addition, its multiple terminals cater to a variety of tastes, with Texan hospitality and diverse dining options.

Passengers with longer layovers would be happy to know that they can actually rent rooms at the 2 Hyatt Regency hotels in the central terminal area. Moreover, you can enjoy duty-free shopping at the various shops within Terminal D.

3. Denver International Airport (DEN)

Denver International Airport (DEN), with 69.3 million passengers handled in 2022, welcomes travelers with its modern architecture and efficient layout. At 13,570 hectares, DEN is considered to be the largest airport in the Western Hemisphere and the second-largest airport in the world.

Denver’s central location in the continental United States provides easy access to every coast. Although it only has one terminal, the airport has 3 midfield concourses that have a total of 179 gates.

What’s special about the DEN is its public art program that’s financed by a portion of the airport’s capital improvement budget. This has resulted in several art installations, sculptures, and other cultural elements that add to the airport’s unique identity.

4. Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

With 68.3 million passengers passing through in 2022, the Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is busy, indeed. It sits on 3,087 hectares and has 4 numbered terminals, 9 lettered concourses, and 213 gates.

ORD plays a pivotal role in connecting travelers worldwide. Inside, Chicago’s vibrant spirit permeates the airport. Moreover, it offers various dining options from classic deep-dish pizza to gourmet delights.

In terms of architecture, ORD’s iconic terminal is a visual treat, and its commitment to efficiency is evident in its streamlined processes. Navigating through ORD, you’ll find that the Windy City’s warmth and hospitality extend to its airport as well.

5. Dubai International Airport (DXB)

The next destination is Dubai International Airport (DXB), a testament to opulence with 66.1 million passengers served in 2022. With so many visitors to this transit hub, DBX surpassed its pre-pandemic levels with 41.6 million passengers served during the first 6 months of 2023.

DXB is the epitome of luxury, featuring high-end shopping, fine dining, and an ambiance that redefines airport experiences. You’ll find yourself wandering through an airport that feels more like a glamorous shopping mall.

If you’re lucky enough to have a layover in this airport, don’t miss out on savoring Middle Eastern cuisine at the food courts and shopping at their designer duty-free shops.

6. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Los Angeles International Airport, famously known as LAX, is a gateway to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and the vibrant culture of Los Angeles. Seeing 65.9 million passengers in 2022, LAX plays a pivotal role in connecting travelers to the entertainment capital of the world.

LAX boasts unique features that make it stand out. The iconic Theme Building, resembling a futuristic spaceship, is not just a symbol of the airport but also a must-see attraction. Inside the terminals, you’ll find a diverse array of dining and shopping spots, as well as entertainment options that represent the cultural tapestry of Los Angeles.

However, it’s essential to be aware that LAX can be a bustling and crowded airport, especially during peak travel times. Security lines and the flow of passengers can sometimes test your patience. To navigate LAX efficiently, consider arriving early, utilizing the airport’s mobile app for updates, and exploring the various terminals to discover hidden gems like art installations and local culinary delights.

There’s more to the world’s busiest airports than mere transportation hubs that you go to and from your destinations. They are places where travelers can rest and unwind. What’s more, in each airport, travelers can see a glimpse of what the place is all about. Besides a place to land airplanes, airports represent the destination they are in. They provide the first and last impressions of a place, enticing travelers to come back and explore some more.
