I recently had the pleasure of dining at People’s Palace for the first time during a special event—the Sun Life Media Thanksgiving Lunch. As a way of expressing their appreciation for the support of bloggers and media representatives throughout the year, Sun Life’s Philippine Leadership Team invited us to an afternoon filled with great food, fun games, and exciting prizes. It was a chance to celebrate the season of gratitude while enjoying a delightful meal in one of Makati’s most stylish venues.In between enjoying the delicious food, we were treated to exciting games, where we could win cool prizes.

Our lunch began with a colorful array of dishes, each one more flavorful than the last. These included:

Tom Kha Gai. A comforting chicken and coconut soup that was the perfect balance of creamy and tangy. The tender chicken paired beautifully with the rich coconut milk, and the hint of lemongrass added a refreshing depth of flavor.

Vietnamese-style fried spring rolls with herbs and nou cham. A light and crispy appetizer, with a burst of freshness from the herbs and leaves inside.

Chicken satay with peanut sauce. The satay was perfectly grilled, tender, and served with a rich, creamy peanut sauce that complemented the flavors beautifully.

Crispy squid with tamarind relish. Perfectly fried squid—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—and paired with a tangy tamarind relish that added just the right amount of sweetness and acidity.

Prawn, pomelo, chicken, and coconut salad. A vibrant mix of flavors—tender prawns, juicy pomelo, and shredded chicken, all tossed in a fragrant coconut dressing. The combination of textures, from the crunch of the pomelo to the smoothness of the coconut, made this salad a delightful and unexpected treat.

Crispy lapu-lapu fillets with red curry and basil. The fish was golden and crispy that contrasted nicely with the smoothness of the red curry.

Son-in-Law Eggs. Hard boiled eggs, fried to develop a chewy skin, then topped with a sweet and sour tamarind sauce. Legend has it that a protective Thai mother served this to her son-in-law as a warning to not mistreat her daughter.

Mixed vegetables with broccoli, kale, baby corn and more. Fresh veggies to add some crunch and wholesome flavors to the meal.

Mussaman curry of lamb with potatoes, peanuts, and shallots. The tender lamb was slow-cooked in a fragrant curry sauce, and the combination of peanuts and shallots added a depth of flavor that made this dish a real showstopper.

Crispy bananas with coconut and ice cream. Sweet and indulgent bananas, coated in a crispy shell and topped with coconut.

Sticky rice with ripe mangoes and coconut cream. The creamy coconut milk paired perfectly with the fresh mangoes, creating a dessert that was both satisfying and refreshing.

Throughout the lunch, we were also served our choice of refreshing drinks which served as perfect complements to the rich and spicy flavors of the Thai dishes.

I can’t help but appreciate the exceptional experience it offers. From the modern, inviting ambiance to the delicious array of dishes that brings a welcome break from the usual lunch out fare, it’s clear why this restaurant has become a favorite for many.

As we arrived during preparations for a private event later that evening, we opted for a spot in the al fresco section, facing the parking lot.

I’ve heard that the café’s atmosphere is relaxed during the day, but as the evening sets in, the energy shifts. A spacious bar area stands at the center, where drinks are prepared with flair, adding a touch of excitement to the experience. The al fresco area facing Dona Julia Vargas Avenue, with its tropical beach bar vibes, feels breezy and inviting, perfect for any time of day.

Inside, Boudica has a modern yet homey feel. Murals and colorful designs decorate the walls, adding an artsy touch to the décor. The faux fireplace, plush sofas, and laid-back vibe make you feel like you’re in the home of a friend who loves to entertain. It’s a place where you can relax, escape the noise of the city, and enjoy some of the best comfort food in Ortigas.

Boudica Café Bar is the brainchild of “The Matthews” – chefs Matthew Lim and Matthew Bates, the same duo behind the popular fish-and-chips joint, CargoFish. Their goal was simple: to create a place where people could enjoy no-frills comfort food in a cozy yet lively setting. With their success at CargoFish, known for serving Metro Manila’s best Fish and Chips, it’s clear that they know how to create a memorable dining experience.

The chefs’ passion for bringing high-quality, approachable food to Ortigas is evident in every dish, whether it’s a plate of smoky bacon or a hearty burger made from premium USDA beef. Next, we tried the Frutti di Mare (₱595), a plate of spaghetti tossed with shrimp, mussels, and chili flakes in a tomato sauce. The pasta was cooked just right, and the seafood was fresh, offering a comforting yet flavorful dish that was both light and satisfying.

For pizza lovers, the Four Cheese Neapolitan Pizza (₱585) is a must-try. Topped with pecorino, blue cheese, cream cheese, and gouda, this pizza had the perfect melt and depth of flavor, making it a crowd-pleaser.

To wash everything down, I opted for the Kamote Tops Iced Tea (₱155). The refreshing, slightly sweet beverage was the perfect balance to the savory dishes we enjoyed. It’s just one of the many creative drink options on the menu, which also features house cocktails, juices, and smoothies that are perfect for any time of day.
