Generika Drugstore and Ayala Foundation Launch Scholarship Program to Empower Future Pharmacists

Generika Drugstore, in partnership with Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI), has introduced the Enrollment to Employment Scholarship Program, designed to support aspiring pharmacists and address the growing demand for healthcare professionals, particularly in underserved areas. The initiative aims to provide deserving students with the opportunity to complete their education and pursue careers in pharmacy, with the potential to give back to their communities.

One of the scholarship recipients, Micaella Abedejos from Davao City, is pursuing a pharmacy degree to help her grandmother manage multiple medications. Her experiences inspired her to pursue a career in pharmacy, seeing it as a way to empower people through education and proper healthcare management.

“Whenever I come home from school, my grandmother would ask me about her medications, and being able to explain it to her made me happy,” Micaella said. “This inspired me to share my knowledge about her medications because I didn’t want her taking them without knowing what they were for. I felt motivated to help and make a difference.”

Despite financial challenges, Micaella’s academic excellence and determination earned her a place in the scholarship program, which is specifically designed for students in need of support to complete their studies.

Atty. Yet Abarca, President and CEO of Generika Drugstore, emphasized the critical role of pharmacists in delivering accessible healthcare, especially in areas where drugstores often serve as the primary healthcare resource.

“This is really a milestone for us as we embark on this program with Ayala Foundation. Central to our promise of ginhawa is the pharmacist. Inspiring Stories from Scholars

Three other aspiring pharmacists also shared their experiences as beneficiaries of the scholarship program.

Elizabeth Montano from Bacoor, Cavite, was driven to pursue pharmacy after helping her father recover from a stroke. She found herself fascinated by the complexity of the medications and saw pharmacy as a way to ensure patients’ safety.

“Ang dami pong kailangan na skills. Hindi lang po sa memorization, sa pag-intindi rin po, at sa pakikipag-usap sa mga tao. Kasama po lahat ‘yun,” she said. “Nag-aaral po ako nang mabuti, para as a future pharmacist, masisiguro po nating safe ang patients natin.”

Maureen Concon of Davao City, whose family relies on a small sari-sari store for income, felt immense relief after being selected for the program.

“Parang nabawasan ‘yung worries ko financially kasi I no longer have to ask my parents for an allowance. It also lessens the worries of my parents,” Maureen said.

Another scholar, Hannah Menor from General Trias, Cavite, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity the scholarship provided to her family.

“Sobrang natuwa po ako kasi po ginusto ko po talagang maka-help sa family namin regarding sa finances. Sobrang thankful lang po talaga ako kay Lord for this opportunity,” she shared.

Pathways from Employment to Entrepreneurship

Antonio Lambino II, President of Ayala Foundation Inc., highlighted the long-term potential for scholars to advance their careers, noting that Generika Drugstore’s network opens doors not only to employment but also to entrepreneurship.

A Midweek Reunion at Wildflour Six/NEO BGC: Great Food, Great Friends, Great Memories

Reuniting with old friends is always special, but when your group is made up of former coworkers who have all gone on to different career paths, it feels even more meaningful. Over the years, we’ve stayed close despite everyone moving to different companies. Even though our schedules are hectic, we make it a point to meet up at least once a year to catch up on life and everything in between.

Normally, these meetups happen over brunch during the weekend, and last year we gathered at Wildflour’s Uptown Ritz branch for one of our annual brunches. This time, though, we switched things up. For the first time in a while, all of us were free on a Wednesday night, so we decided to meet at Wildflour’s Six/NEO branch in BGC for dinner instead.

Why Wildflour?

When it came to choosing a spot, Wildflour was an easy choice. It’s been one of our go-to places, and with good reason. Wildflour is known for its French-American-inspired dishes and in-house bakery, offering everything from brunch staples to hearty dinners. The restaurant has a reputation for using high-quality ingredients sourced from local farms, and that’s something I’ve always appreciated.

Since we had only tried their brunch menu before, this dinner was an exciting opportunity to explore what Wildflour had to offer in the evening. Plus, its Six/NEO branch is conveniently located for most of us who live or work near BGC.

Ambiance Perfect for Catching Up

I was struck by how well the restaurant transitions from a vibrant brunch spot to a cozy, relaxed dinner venue. The rustic, old-world charm that Wildflour is known for was still there, but the softer lighting in the evening created a warm, inviting atmosphere. It was perfect for unwinding after a long day and having meaningful conversations with friends.

The restaurant wasn’t too crowded, so we didn’t have to worry about raising our voices to be heard. The laid-back vibe helped us settle into the evening and really focus on catching up with each other.

The Food: A Feast for Friends

As for the food, Wildflour did not disappoint. The Classic Caesar Salad (Php490) is a fresh and crunchy plate of romaine hearts, crispy bacon, parmigiano reggiano, and a perfectly fried egg. It was light but flavorful, setting the tone for the rest of the meal.

Next came the main dishes, and they were all as satisfying as they were diverse. While we all went for different choices, and we all shared bites of each dish, family-style.

The Braised Beef Brisket (Php995), which was slow-cooked to perfection in red wine, featured tender and flavorful meat, paired with a smooth pumpkin puree and roasted vegetables.

The California Burger (Php660) was a 1/3-pound of juicy all-beef patty with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and tomatoes in a soft brioche bun. It was simple, but the quality of the ingredients made it memorable.

The Rigatoni Bolognese (Php520), with its rich tomato-based sauce and generous sprinkling of parmesan, was another hit.

My Squid Ink Pasta (Php770), on the other hand, was a flavor indulgence which came loaded with fresh seafood and a subtle garlic flavor that blended beautifully with the pistachios and tomatoes.

Of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert. The Opera Cake (Php310) was a decadent mix of chocolate cremeux, coffee ganache, and dark chocolate glaze, balancing rich and bitter notes in every bite. It was the perfect way to end the meal.

More Than Just a Dinner

The food was delicious, but what made the evening truly special was being able to share it with people who mean so much to me. We laughed over old work stories, swapped updates about our careers, and talked about everything from family life to future plans. Wildflour’s relaxed ambiance made it easy to enjoy each other’s company, with no rush to leave or distractions to interrupt us.
