New delicious food brands at KG Hall’s Super Secret Supper Club

Do you want to explore fresh ways to enjoy your classic faves? Do you look forward to broadening your food horizons? Do you long to be in on exciting foodie adventures?

Well, along Sgt. Esguerra Street in Quezon City’s Tomas Morato area, there’s a thrilling secret that’s soon to be revealed that will surely enliven the metro’s foodies.

A Super Secret Supper Club!

This secret society will meet at KitchenGarten, a multi-functional space that houses two professional integrated cloud kitchens and a spacious event hall. The area can serve as a venue for various types of personal and commercial events and functions.

Located in a loft overlooking the main kitchen is KG Hall, an open space that can accommodate up to sixty seated guests. It’s ideal for large social gatherings such as parties and seminars.

Sometime soon, once or twice a month, KG Hall will serve as the venue for the Super Secret Supper Club, a gathering for foodies to savor the wondrous creations from KitchenGarten’s talented chefs.

Among these creations are four exciting food brands that will soon find their way into the hearts of the metro’s foodies.

Betwixt

Getting its name from the sandwich’s main characteristic – being between two pieces of bread – Betwixt serves up delightful twists through fresh takes on sandwich filling, all made from scratch, generously portioned into freshly baked, house-made bread served with root-crop chips.

(Note: The sandwiches in the pictures below are bite-sized versions for tasting). The actual sandwiches would be bigger, sized for a solo serving or might be large enough to share.)

Nosh Market

For meat lovers out there, Nosh Market serves up appetizing twists on ribs that will get you reaching for piece after delicious piece. Solo servings include your choice of Nosh’ tasty Side Kick while full portions come with your choice of two Side Kicks. Pair these viands with a the house-made iced tea – Nosh Slosh – or the various craft beers and sparkling seltzers available.

The Bakery and Estheritas

Wondering where Betwixt’s freshly baked breads come from? Not far, apparently.

Within the same kitchen is The Bakery by Nosh Market which supplies breads and loaves such as honey whole wheat, rye, Cubano, banana bread and banana muffin.

Also available are whole cakes such as Nosh Tablea Cake, Mixed Berries Shortcake and Nosh Mini Cakes.

Estheritas MNL, on the other hand, is the prime source for glammed up cakes, pies and pastries such as the La Trinidad Shortcake, Classic Pistachio Sans Rival and Classic Ensaymada.

With such delectable items on offer, KG Hall’s Super Secret Supper Club is certainly something we shouldn’t keep to ourselves, is it?

Snackable baked goodies from Breadtalk, SM East Ortigas

To be honest, my quarantine life has been made so much more bearable by the joys of snacking.

Munching on some sweet or savory pastries in the afternoon after office Zoom meetings or during tutoring sessions with my son help to tide me over until dinnertime, giving me that much-needed energy boost. When my kids and I get a case of the munchies late at night, we also reach for some breads that we pair with our favorite spreads.

Fortunately, there’s a Breadtalk branch in the mall near my home which lets me grab delicious and affordable baked goods whenever I go out for a supply run.

Here, some of my go-to breads and pastries are made fresh everyday. In keeping with safety protocols, it already accepts cashless payments via GCash.

My favorites among its offerings include:

Kick Kick (Php39). Soft pillowy bread split in the middle to give way to a creamy sweet custard.

Rocky Rocky Milk (Php45). Fluffy Danish pastry with milky cream.

Strawberry Rocky (Php45). Rocky Rocky Milk breads halved then split in the middle to hold some tangy and sweet strawberry jam.

Prosperity Polo (Php56). Similar to a Danish pastry, this is topped with a pineapple ring with a creamy sweet custard in the middle.

Earthquake Cheese Toast (Php159). A toasted airy loaf filled with cheese bits.

Almond Frenzy (Php41). A fluffy baked doughnut topped with sliced almonds.

Custard Bun (Php35). Soft milk bread with a rich custard filling in the center.

Baguette (Php62). A long thin and crusty loaf which is a perfect companion for the the Shrimp Gambas I sometimes make for dinner.

Wholemeal Toast (Php109). Fluffy bread which serves as a perfect foil for my son’s favorite tuna spread.

Comfort food at Nord’s Bread Hub, SM Megamall

There are only a handful of things that can match the ability of freshly baked bread to evoke feelings of warmth and comfort.

At the newly opened branch of Nords Bread Hub at the SM Megamall’s Eatogether Food Hall, comforting and delightful baked goods are what you’ll find in abundance.

Nord’s Bread Hub is a new dining concept managed by the Vikings Group. This particular restaurant brand specializes in producing artisanal breads from Asian and Western culinary traditions.

During a recent foodie meetup with my fellow foodies, I was able to check out some of its menu items.

Silvanas (Php78/pc). The Pinoy version of a frozen cookie sandwich, it consists of a layer of buttercream cashew-meringue wafer and coated with cookie crumbs. Available variants include Classic and Ube.

Dark Choco Messy Bread (Php58/pc). If you’re a fan of munching on pastries during your coffee break, then this flyffy Danish bread flavored with dark chocolate and cocoa powder should be right up your alley.

Craving for a hot meal? Nord’s got you there too with tasty appetizers and rice dishes for you to enjoy, like this Crispy Pork Kare Kare (Php280) which features Nord’s signature crispy pork belly in the rich peanut-based kare kare sauce and vegetables served with shrimp paste.

So come on over to Nord’s for a bit of comfort food!

Breakfast Takeout at 85C Bakery Cafe, Lynnwood

Yesterday, the second day of our family in the Evergreen State, my brother took us to his favorite pastry shop, 85C Bakery Cafe.

85C got its name from its belief that coffee holds its flavor best at a steady temperature of 85 degrees Celsius. Its name is a statement of the cafe’s commitment to serving handcrafted coffee of the highest quality.

Each 85C store has its own in-shop bakery with a wide variety of pastries baked fresh every hour.

These pastries were the reason for our visit yesterday afternoon: the plan was to buy some of the store’s freshly baked goods for our breakfast the next day. Our loot included:

Milk Toast (USD3.00). A loaf with a fresh and natural milk taste.

Taro Puff Pastry (USD2.50). This puff pastry is light, flaky, and layered with delicious taro filling inside.

Milk Pudding (USD2.00). A traditional Japanese style soft bread with vanilla custard inside.

Garlic Cheese (USD2.00). A soft textured bread topped with our signature garlic spread, mozzarella cheese, and sprinkled with fresh parsley.

Cheese Dog (USD2.20). Soft bread wrapped around a hot dog, with cheddar & mozzarella cheese. Baked with ketchup, light mayo, black pepper and dry parsley.

Marble Taro (USD3.00). A sweet bread made with mixed grains and filled with signature taro filling.

This morning, I had the Milk Pudding and Taro Puff Pastry for my meal while I was enjoying the crisp morning air.
