Energizing smoothies at Jamba Juice, Greenbelt

My daughter #ExhibitA and I had a busy Saturday planned out exploring the Ayala Museum and the Greenbelt area in Makati so we decided to refuel ourselves at Jamba Juice.

From the time this fruit shake store had its beginnings in California in 1990 to the opening of its first store in the Philippines in 2011, it has established itself as the go-to place for food and drinks that are “better-for-you.”

The Greenbelt store is best-suited for take-outs as it has limited seating. It has a bright, colorful and cheery decor that call to mind the fresh fruits the store uses for its offerings. Despite the limited space, the Jamba Juice merchandise are well-displayed.

#ExhibitA ordered a Banana Berry Smoothie, a concoction of bananas, blueberries, frozen yoghurt, raspberry sherbet and apple-juice that has no gluten, artificial preservatives, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup nor trans fat.

On the other hand, I got myself a Banana Brew Blast Smoothie, a blend of cold brew coffee, vanilla, chocolate, frozen yoghurt and frozen banana. It’s a great source of calcium and protein.

By the way, in the interest of the environment, #ExhibitA suggests asking the barista to hold off on providing you with straws. You can just sip on your smoothie directly. Sure, your lippies might thin out or get smudged as you drink your smoothie but there would be less plastic stuff thrown in the trash and polluting the environment. Every little thing we can do counts. 🙂

Laid-back lunch at White Camp, Tomas Morato

Lunchtime is that magical hour (or hour-and-a-half) where you can rest your brain from your office worries. For me and many of my work buddies, the lunch hour is sacred: it is a respite from work and an opportunity to explore the possibilities for gastronomic delights that surround the workplace.

Last Thursday, when I found myself without my usual lunch buddies, I was lucky enough to chance upon another officemate who was willing to forego the pleasures of the office foodcourt and accompany me to White Camp Coffee.

A newly opened cafe located at the corner of Mother Ignacia Avenue and Sgt. Esguerra Street in Quezon City, White Camp promises to be “a bright space for infinite cofee and dining adventures.”

The resto’s interiors are bright and cheery, a palette of white with spots of colors which are all easy on the eyes. Comfy tables, chairs and counters are conducive to hanging out and enjoying one’s coffee concoction.

For lunch that day, I ordered a Truffled Eggs on Toast brunch set (Php189) which consist of a smaller portion of the resto’s fluffy scrambled eggs with a hint of truffle oil on toast, accompanied by crunchy wonton chips and a free drink which I upgraded to a Latte (by adding Php30). Perfect timing as it turns out because brunch sets are only available weekdays from 10am to 2pm.

My companion, on the other hand, got a Bacon Bagnet Rice Meal (Php289). Sinful strips of bacon deep-fried for a satisfying crunch were served alongside fluffy garlic fried rice.

The portions were substantial considering my companion shared some of his bacon bagnet with me and I ended up having half of my toast wrapped up to go.

All in all, it was a satisfying meal for me, made all the better by having a new lunch companion.

Update: I went back to White Camp together with my usual lunch buddies. I ordered a Kani Sandwich Brunch Set (also Php189) and I just upgraded the drink to a Flat White (+ Php30).

White Camp Coffee and Kitchen is located at 62 Sgt. Esguerra Corner Mother Ignacia Avenue, South Triangle, Quezon City (Tel: +63 9178987793)

Work-related hang-out at UCC Park Cafe, Glorietta Complex

Whenever I’m Ayala Center and I pass by this free standing resto amidst the park greenery, I always thought of it would be a great place to hang out in after a bout of shopping.

So far, I haven’t been able to just chill here as during both instances I’ve been are work-related.

Still, I have been able to try its sandwich offerings:

Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Php280). Three different kinds of cheese (cheddar, gruyere and mozarella) on buttered toast.

Cliffhanger Sandwich (Php250). Chicken, bacon, scrambled eggs, mozarella cheese inside fried custard-coated bread.

I didn’t care much for the side of marinara sauce that came with the sandwiches but I found the sandwiches themselves rich and filling.

The Cafe Americano (Php120) gave me a good pick-me-up. The muscovado sugar gave it a different kind of sweetness.

Thanks to my generous workmates, I was able to sample its other dishes:

Pasta Carbonara (Php260). Spaghetti noodles in a white sauce with sauteed bacon and onions, topped with a poached egg and parmesan cheese. I found this pasta a little too wet for my taste.

Garlic Seafood Pasta (Php450). Spaghetti noodles with shrimp, cuttlefish, mushrooms and scallops sauteed in garlic and olive oil. This seems to be a light and more preferable alternative to heavily sauced pasta dishes.

Crispy Wings (Php320). Fried marinated chicken wings served with garlic dip and fries. A bit forgettable but at least I got some more meat to go with my sandwich at the time.

I wouldn’t mind coming back to try out some of its more unusual food items such as its Cheese and Spinach (Php280) appetizer and Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese (Php320).
