Dining in style and comfort

The setting certainly helped to spotlight the artfully arranged dishes in their respective stations. We noted that the recent renovations have given the space a refreshing, airy feel, with sleek furniture and stylish lighting accentuating the modern décor. The welcoming and comfortable atmosphere makes it the go-to place for families, creating an inviting environment where guests can relax and enjoy their meals. The spacious layout ensures that whether you’re dining with a large group in a private room or enjoying an intimate meal in a window-side booth, there’s a perfect spot for you.

A flavorful journey across seven delicious world cuisines

The concept behind Seven Corners’ buffet is as impressive as it is diverse, featuring seven unique stations that celebrate the richness of world cuisines. Each station offers a distinct culinary adventure, showcasing the expertise and passion of the chefs.

Salad Station

We were welcomed into the restaurant by the Salad Station, a vibrant display of fresh greens, sliced vegetables and fruits, as well as a variety of nuts and dressings. The importance of balancing our meal with lighter, refreshing options was evident here. The assortment of crisp, colorful ingredients enticed us to create our own salads, setting a healthy tone for the feast ahead (or at least minimizing our guilt from indulging ourselves later in the meal).

Pizza & Pasta Station

The Pizza & Pasta Station, across from the salad station, is where the aroma of freshly baked pizzas fill the air. The customizable pasta dishes were a highlight, with chefs preparing pasta to order right before our eyes from our selections of pasta noodles, sauces and toppings. The delightful variety of breads, cheeses, jams, and cold cuts off to the side added to the experience, offering a taste of Italy’s finest.

The four-cheese pizza, with its rich and gooey texture, is another highlight.

Japanese Station

The Japanese Station, on the other hand, was a sensory delight as well. From the delicate slices of sushi and sashimi to the freshly made crispy veggie, fish and shrimp tempura, every dish was a work of art. The meticulous presentation – from the displays of sushi boats and the preparation of Torched Cheese Salmon – enhanced our dining experience, making it as visually pleasing as it was delicious.

Indian Station

The Indian Station introduced us to a world of spices and bold flavors. Dishes like Baingan Bartha, Aloo Curry, and Gobi Palak Masala tickle the palate, complemented by various chutneys that go perfectly with freshly made buttery naan. Each bite is a celebration of India’s rich culinary heritage.

Asian Station

At the Asian Station, we find a delectable array of Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Filipino dishes. The Filipino favorites such as Crispy Pork Belly was a standout, embodying the rich flavors of the Philippines. The make-your-own Singaporean Seafood Laksa experience was a must-try, as well as selecting fresh crab and shrimps to be sautéed in a special garlic butter sauce or oysters for baking upon order.

8 reasons to have your family weekend getaway at Timberland Highlands Resort

Are the heat and the humidity of the metro getting to you? Do you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city? Or do you feel bored to bits while stuck in your room as you work from home?

It may be high time for you and the fam to take a break from the daily grind and hie off to a quick getaway for a much needed change of scenery.

That’s what Hubby and I did this last weekend. Together with the kiddos -#ExhibitA and #ExhibitB – we went off to a mountain adventure to Timberlands Highlands Resort for some family bonding time and well-deserved R ‘n R.

Here are 8 reasons why you should, too!

1. You won’t have to travel far to get there.

Timberland Highlands Resort is a sprawling property located within Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal.

Thanks to the ever-reliable Waze app, we were able to reach the resort in less than an hour from our home in Pasig (not counting our lunch stopover in Marikina).

If traveling by car, it’s also around 40 minutes away from the Batasan area in Quezon City, and a little over an hour away from the cities of Manila and Makati.

Imagine being that close to your staycation destination!

All hotel rooms are equipped with a safety deposit box, flat-screen TV with cable channels, Wi-Fi connection and a work desk. (The latter two, in particular, were very helpful during our first day there as I was doing remote work. I was able to log in to three consecutive Zoom meetings, and was presenting in two of them with nary a dropped call or frozen screen.)

Note: Mobile phone signal may be spotty in the room and at some other locations within the hotel so I would suggest logging your devices into the hotel WiFi. That way, you can be reachable via online messaging to your work colleagues and family members (if you want to be reachable, that is, hehehe!)

Couples are in for a delightfully decadent dining experience as Café 1228 offers an extensive all-you-can-eat a la carte selection on 14 February for lunch or dinner. The restaurant’s signature slow roast prime ribeye, Rosemary lamb chops, Pork cassoulet, Braised leg of lamb in red wine, and Seared salmon with parmesan crisp and dill cream sauce are just some of the enticing items guests can enjoy along with a complimentary glass of red, white or sparkling wine.

Salads and light bites to start off the gustatory experience are Parma ham with brie and grape chutney, Cambozola with roasted cherry tomatoes on pesto crostini and Salami Milano with cocktail onions, beet cured salmon, horseradish, dill and cornichons, to name a few.

Seafood served hot-off-the-grill include shrimps, blue crabs, clams and mussels prepped with an array of sauces – garlic butter, salt and pepper, garlic and cheese, white wine, and sweet chili. These would go nicely with the Italian selection of pasta and pizza such as Pesto cream, Puttanesca, Marinara, and Carbonara sauces, as well as Frutti di mare, Margherita, Parma ham arugula, and Mediterranean vegetable, respectively.

Elegant buffet spreads at Marriott Cafe

Thanks to a timely credit card promo, we found ourselves celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday with a buffet lunch at the Marriott Café in Manila. Nestled on the ground level of the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, this café takes dining to new heights, both literally and figuratively.

The first thing that strikes you upon entering Marriott Café is its elegance. The place is very well-appointed, with a modern yet inviting ambiance. The buffet spreads, featuring cuisines from various countries, were aesthetically presented, each dish a visual delight. The engaging open-theatre kitchens add an element of excitement, making dining here a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

The staff were courteous and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. Their professionalism added to the overall charm of the café, making us feel pampered from the moment we arrived.

Being a card-carrying carnivore, my favorite station was the grill. I helped myself to the “Cuts of the Day,” which were juicy and well-marbled steaks, along with an assortment of smoked meats and sausages. Each bite was a testament to the skill and expertise of Executive Chef Meik Brammer, who has been leading the kitchen operations since 2010. His more than 27 years of culinary experience were evident in every mouthwatering dish.

One of the standout features of the buffet was the variety of stations. The Live Station offered a variety of a la minute dishes, with the Singapore Chili Crabs being a particular highlight. The Sashimi Station transported us to Japan, offering a fresh and delicious selection of Salmon Tuna, handcrafted Japanese Maki Rolls, Cucumber Rolls, and California Rolls, complete with wasabi, soy sauce, calamansi, and assorted pickles.

At the Live Pasta Station, Grandma’s Pomodoro was a daily delight. Choosing from a variety of sumptuous pasta dishes, it felt like comfort food elevated to gourmet levels. And then, of course, there was the dessert section. I gorged myself on their selection of tartlets, cakes, cookies, and pastries. The chocolate fountain was a hit with the kids and, admittedly, with me as well.
