Indulge Your Senses: 7 Irresistible Reasons to Dine at AMAH Restaurant

There’s a culinary haven nestled inside AFPOVAI Village in Taguig. This hidden gem is not your typical dining spot. AMAH Restaurant is a place where heirloom recipes meet modern palates, and where the comfort of home blends seamlessly with the sophistication of a rooftop restaurant.

Here are seven irresistible reasons why a visit to AMAH should be on your dining bucket list:

1. A Hidden Gem with a View

As you wander through the charming streets of AFPOVAI Village, you might stumble upon an unassuming beige private residence. But there’s a secret behind those walls. Look for the small round sign that proudly displays “Amah” in bold red letters. Come inside, and you’ll be warmly welcomed into the home of Chef Jose Villareal, an up-and-coming culinary genius studying at Enderun College. The adventure begins as the staff guides you to the rooftop of the house, where the actual restaurant awaits.

And on this rooftop, with the gentle breeze rustling through the leaves of lush foliage, the mesmerizing panorama of Taguig and Makati cityscapes, illuminated by the glittering city lights stretches before you. It’s a hidden oasis, a serene escape from the bustling city below.

2. Outdoor Dining Oasis

While AMAH offers indoor seating, the outdoor option is the way to go to elevate your dining experience. There, surrounded by lush greenery, or illuminated by Chinese lanterns with a soft, warm glow, you have an intimate and romantic atmosphere that’s perfect for a memorable meal.

3. The Story Behind AMAH

Behind every great restaurant, there’s a story that makes it even more special. AMAH, as its name suggests, is named after the founder’s beloved grandmother. But it’s more than just a name; it’s a tribute to the traditions and memories that have shaped Filipino culinary heritage. What started as a creative outlet and real-world experience for budding chefs during the height of the pandemic has blossomed into a must-visit culinary destination. By October 2022, the restaurant gained accreditation from Enderun College as an establishment where its students can undergo their on-the-job training.

4. Locally-Sourced Ingredients

At AMAH, it’s not just about serving mouthwatering dishes; it’s about supporting local communities and celebrating Filipino flavors. They take pride in sourcing their ingredients locally, from different corners of the Philippines. This commitment to local produce infuses each dish with a unique and authentic touch, blending age-old recipes with contemporary culinary techniques.

5. Heirloom Recipes with a Twist

Chef Jose Villareal and co-chef Gab Escalambre II serve as the culinary masterminds behind AMAH’s refreshed menu. They’ve taken beloved heirloom Filipino-Chinese recipes and given them a fresh twist. Among the exciting items on offer are:

House Chips (Php80). Thin potato slices, delicately flavored with garlic and scallion.

My Family’s Brunch Experience

One fine Sunday morning, after the family has attended mass, brunch seemed like a great idea. Given the fam’s developing taste for foodie adventures, we decided to dine at Locavore’s Eastwood branch.

In this restaurant with a chic hispter vibe, we found modernity and creativity in equal measure. The sleek interior design set the stage for an extraordinary meal. For diners who prefer to enjoy their meal in the open air, Locavore offers an al fresco dining area where they can savor their food amidst the relaxed atmosphere of Eastwood’s surroundings.

For our Sunday brunch, the fam and I feasted on:

Salted Egg Chips (Php445). A tantalizing creation of thinly sliced taro coated in salted egg puree, topped with quesong puti and a zesty salsa, serving as a great start to our meal!

#BaguioEats: A delicious Mediterranean feast at Lemon & Olives Greek Taverna

My fam and I continued our food-tripping around Baguio with a lunch at one of its celebrated culinary destinations: Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna. As the first and only authentic Greek restaurant in the area, Lemon and Olives lives up to its promise of providing a delightful journey through the flavors and aromas of Greece.

We approached Lemon and Olives along Outlook Drive, a mere ten minutes drive from where we were staying, with quite a bit of excitement. After all, thanks to Hubby’s pre-trip research (mostly made up of Youtube videos of travel bloggers who’ve tried the restaurant), we’ve been looking forward to sampling to the wonders of Greek cuisine.

The interior of Lemon and Olives exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for an authentic Greek dining experience. The whitewashed walls, wooden floors, and elements like wrought-iron lamps that give off warm light and tchotchkes artfully placed on shelves transported us to a comfy Greek home.

However, the real treat for diners await outside on the veranda. Surrounded by lush greenery and with a breathtaking view of the forest and mountains, the veranda provides an enchanting backdrop to any meal.

Here’s a tip: To secure the best seats and enjoy the picturesque view, make sure to get there early. We visited for lunch as soon as the restaurant opened at 11 am, but the veranda dining area – the best seats in the house with the amazing views of the mountainside – were already filled up. We had to settle for a window-side table which still had a picturesque view of the nearby forest area.

Our Journey Through Delicious Greek Flavors

Greek food is a delightful fusion of Mediterranean flavors, characterized by fresh and wholesome ingredients that celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Greece. Known for its emphasis on olive oil, feta cheese, herbs like oregano and mint, and an abundance of fresh vegetables, Greek cuisine offers a harmonious balance of savory and tangy tastes.

Our culinary journey began with the classic Greek Salad (Php390). A delightful blend of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, feta cheese, imported olive oil, and Greek olives, this salad instantly refreshed our palates.

Next, we tried the Evia Salad (Php460), a unique and refreshing combination of dried Greek figs, fresh pomegranate pearls, candied walnuts, mixed greens, and a tangy balsamic reduction.

Our taste buds continued to dance as we indulged in the Poikilia (Php420), a mixed grill platter featuring Greek village sausage, spicy soutzouki sausage, saganaki cheese, tzatziki dip, and pita bread. This truly lived up to its moniker of Parthenon of Greek Appetizers!

The highlight of our feast was undoubtedly the succulent Special Lamb Chops (Php2,220 – good for four). Tender lamb chops infused with various Greek herbs then grilled to perfection and served with a tangy sauce and assorted grilled veggies, this dish was a true culinary masterpiece.

For burger enthusiasts, the Athens Burger (Php380) is a must-try. A juicy ground beef patty topped with tzatziki dressing and fresh veggies, served in a soft brioche bun alongside a generous side of potato wedges. It’s a heavenly combination that my son had no trouble wolfing down.

To satisfy our sweet tooth, we savored the traditional Greek dessert, Ekmek (Php150). Layers of shredded crispy phyllo pastry soaked in lemon honey syrup, topped with a luscious milk custard and cream – it was pure bliss in every spoonful.

We should also not forget the Classic Baklava (Php200), a delectable pastry featuring layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and a honey-lemon syrup. A sweet ending to an unforgettable feast!

Creating Cherished Memories

Beyond the delicious food and charming ambiance, what made our experience truly special was the time spent with my husband and son. It was heartwarming to see my boy enjoy new flavors and embrace the wonders of Greek cuisine. Lemon and Olives provided the perfect setting for us to create cherished memories together.

Top 12 Dishes to Savor this August as Cafe Ilang-Ilang Celebrates the Flavors of Western Visayas

Ernest Hemingway once cited The Manila Hotel as “the perfect representation of the city, if not the country’s resilience, vitality, versatility and hospitality.”

This certainly is true as the iconic Grand Dame not only evokes the prestige and nostalgia of the old city, but, as its current president Joey Lina put it, it also “is a repository of culture and history.”

Taiwanese Culinary Bliss at Din Tai Fung, SM Megamall

Are you on the hunt for a taste of authentic Taiwanese cuisine that will leave your taste buds singing? Well, look no further than Din Tai Fung. This award-winning Taiwanese restaurant, renowned for its exquisite Xiaolongbao, has found its way to the heart of the Philippines, and it’s not just a restaurant – it’s an experience!

The Moment Group brought the magic of Din Tai Fung to the Philippines in 2015, opening its first branch at the ever-vibrant SM Megamall. Since then, this food haven has expanded to other locations, including BGC, Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 3, SM North EDSA and SM Mall of Asia, delighting the metro’s foodies.

During a recent shopping trip with my Hubby and son at SM Megamall, we treated ourselves to a Taiwanese feast for lunch at Din Tai Fung.

The Meaning Behind the Name

Ever wondered about the meaning behind Din Tai Fung’s name? Each character holds significance that aligns perfectly with the restaurant’s vision. “鼎” (Din) stands for Wok, symbolizing the traditional cooking method used to create some of their delectable dishes. “泰” (Tai) represents Peace, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Din Tai Fung – a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for you to indulge in Taiwanese goodness. Finally, “豐” (Fung) stands for Abundance, promising a dining experience that leaves you fully satisfied and wanting more.

The Concept and Ambiance

Similar to other Din Tai Fung restaurants, the ambiance of its SM branch is marked by simplicity and understated charm.

While waiting for our table, we watched the expert chefs busily crafting the dimsum and rolling noodles from scratch.

The newly renovated interiors feature light wood walls elegantly adorned with LED screens and anime-style posters, minimalist wooden tables and chairs, and a relaxed dress code which set the stage for a laid-back yet elegant dining experience.

Whether you’re here with friends, family, or just treating yourself, Din Tai Fung promises an atmosphere that allows you to focus on what truly matters – the food.

Efficient Ordering, Serving, and Payment Process

One of the most unique aspects of dining at Din Tai Fung is the efficient and interactive ordering process. As my Hubby, son, and I settled into our seats, we were handed a clipboard with a list of mouthwatering dishes. Excited to explore the menu, we ticked off the dishes we craved, specifying the serving size and quantity we desired. Our choices were swiftly logged into the restaurant’s system, and a printed list was posted on our table to guide the servers in delivering the dishes we ordered.

After our meal, we settled our bill at the counter where payments via cash, credit or debit cards, Maya e-wallet are accepted.

The Mouthwatering Taiwanese Feast

Our lunch feast at Din Tai Fung was a combination of our all-time Taiwanese food faves as well as new dishes we wanted to try. The resulting symphony of flavors whisked us away to the streets of Taiwan.

Din Tai Fung’s iconic Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php375) are delicate parcels of heaven. Thanks to a visual guide shown by the wait staff, we were able to savor the full experience of eating our xiao long bao. This involved dipping our dumpling in a sauce made with made with ginger slivers, soy sauce and vinegar, placing it on a spoon and poking a small home into to release the broth, and then gently biting into it to get the full flavor explosion from the soup and the luscious pork filling.

Hubby couldn’t resist the Hot Sour Soup (Php215). The tangy, spicy, and savory broth filled with vegetables and tofu warmed him up for the rest of the meal.

Apparently, I also couldn’t resist the temptation of the Pork Roasted Garlic Bun (Php175), thanks to the rich, savory flavor of its pork, garlic, and scallions filling combined with the fluffy, steamed bun.

The Shrimp Shao Mai (Php255), on the other hand, is a treat to the eyes and tastebuds, thanks to its delicate wrapper and the sweetness of shrimp mingled with pork and mushrooms.

To balance our indulgence, we savored the Organic Spinach (Php285), lightly stir-fried with garlic and scallions. This simple yet delightful dish was a refreshing break, adding a dose of health to our feast.

The Salted Egg Squid (Php465), made with crispy, tender squid slices coated in a salty, savory egg batter, is an old favorite that we can always go for.

The 3 Cups Chicken (Php305), on the other hand, was a delicious viand cooked to perfection in a soy sauce, ginger, and scallion sauce; the chicken was tender and juicy, complemented by the rich sauce.

Of course, we couldn’t skip the Shrimp Fried Rice (Php275), a delightful combination of shrimp, chicken, and vegetables tossed in a fragrant soy sauce, ginger, and scallion base. The crispy rice and the medley of flavors complemented the other dishes in our meal.
