Sun Life in the midst of sun, sea and fun in Boracay

Summer is in full force, and Sun Life Philippines is one with Filipinos in welcoming the season with bright and fun activities in Boracay.

Tourists who headed to the island paradise for the recent five-day break were greeted by colorful paraws that were specially designed for Sun Life. Sun Life will also take the opportunity to highlight health and wellness this summer by bringing its Wheel of Life Pop-up Fair to Boracay on April 29.

The fair will feature various health activities, including free consultations, health risk assessments, and nutrition counseling. A mental health check-in will be offered by the Philippine Mental Health Association, while diabetes testing will be courtesy of Sun Life’s healthcare partners, Doctor Anywhere and the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation Inc.

There will also be game booths, free massages, a wellness corner, and other fun activities onsite. Boracay is the only stop the Wheel of Life Pop-up Fair is making in the Visayas region.

A Purposeful Summer

Those eager to make their summer memories more meaningful will be happy to know that artworks created by local artists out of recycled materials will be on display at D’Mall Boracay from April 27 to May 2. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the artists.

Meanwhile, there will also be coastal cleanup sessions happening on April 28, May 13, and June 10 for those who want to help preserve Boracay’s beaches. Volunteers who are licensed scuba divers can also participate in the underwater cleanup activities during these dates. The Sun Life ReCycle PH Machine will also be on hand so participants can exchange their plastic bottles for GCash credits.

All these activities are part of Sun Life’s new health campaign, Wheel of Life, which aims to inspire Filipinos to prioritize their health and help them pursue a healthier lifestyle so that they can live life on their own terms.

Chef Jessie unveils newest creation: the Summer Berries Light Cheesecake!

If the warm weather is any indication, summer is slowly but surely encroaching upon the metro.

The approach of summer, however, need not be a downer, even when most of us are stuck at home with no way to travel to destinations we dreamed about.

Instead, we can bring the essence of summer right where we are with the newest dessert creation from Chef Jessie – the Summer Berries Light Cheesecake!

Chef Jessie Sincioco began her illustrious career when she won the grand prize in The Great Maya Cookfest in 1983, followed by becoming the first Filipina pastry chef in 1990. She later on set up her own company, JCS Gastronomie Inc. to manage several upscale reataurants.

When His Holiness Pope Francis visited the country in 2015, Chef Jessie was handpicked to cook for him.

This summer, Chef Jessie once again flexed her baking muscles and crafted this beautiful cheesecake.

It’s an eight-inch dessert masterpiece made with alternating layers of strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and blackberry light cheesecake interspersed with slices of fresh berries nestled on a thin cornflake crust with crispy sponge discs and undercoated white chocolate.

It is a show-stopping dessert, fit for any season, but definitely a hit for the summer!

Truth be told: my fam and I polished off the entire cake in less than a day. We just couldn’t resist it!

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf launches summer flavors with its coconut ice-blended drinks

Feeling the summer heat yet?

As the temperatures rise, so does the need for refreshing icy drinks to cool down the body and soothe the spirit.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf recently launched a series of drinks for local denizens like you to have a taste of #SummerInYourHands.

These three ice-blended drinks feature that staple flavor of summer: the coconut.

This tropical fruit has long been associated with cool drinks enjoyed at the seaside or while relaxing in the shade, a tasty escape for the body and tastebuds amidst the scorching heat of the sun. It is also known for its resilience, with fruits traversing oceans, setting roots and growing in new shores where their land.

Thanks to GiftAway e-gift coupons from CBTL, facilitated and shared by Marj Liwag of LittleMsPrinter.com, my officemates and I were able to sample the three new seasonal coconut-based drinks at a nearby CBTL outlet. These include:

White Chocolate Coconut Dream. This is the most subtly flavored of the three drinks, with the coconut and the white chocolate flavors blending together well. Among the three drinks, this is actually my favorite.

Dark Chocolate Coconut. More strongly flavored than its white chocolate counterpart, this drink has the coconut flavor taking a backseat to the richer and more complex dark chocolate.

Matcha Coconut Ice Blended. Who would have thought that matcha, essentially powdered green tea leaves, and coconut would go so well together? In this drink, the matcha serves as an earthy frame for the light coconut flavor.

My coworkers and I ordered the drinks to-go: these served as our lunchtime reward, refreshments that fueled us with energy and positivity for the rest of the work day.

These ice-blended coconut drinks are available At Php185 (regular) or Php285 (large) at all CBTL branches in the metro, ready to quench the thirsts and soothe the souls of us office workers this summer.

Trivia: Did you know that The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf invented ice-blended drinks over twenty years ago?

In the summer of 1987, an employee brought a blender to one of the original Southern California stores and started whizzing together ice, coffee extract and chocolate powder. This started the blended coffee craze which continues until today. Imagine what our summers will be without these refreshing icy drinks!
