About Cafe Mary Grace

Cafe Mary Grace traces its roots to its founder’s passion for baking that dates back to 1983. Mary Grace Dimacali, the creative force behind the brand, started her journey as a young mother with a knack for working with dough and batter. Her delectable creations soon gained popularity among friends and family, leading to the birth of Cafe Mary Grace. Today, it stands as a true embodiment of their love for good food and warm hospitality.

The Charming Ambiance

This relatively newly opened glasshouse branch of Cafe Mary Grace in Arcovia City exudes a homey ambiance. The warm lighting fixtures, a mix of dark wood and colorful tiles, and walls adorned with art pieces and handwritten letters from customers—all contributed to the inviting atmosphere. The glasshouse portion, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, allowed natural light to flood the space, creating a cozy yet refreshing environment.

Brunch Feast Highlights

Our feast at Cafe Mary Grace included a delightful array of dishes that include our classic favorites as well as fresh discoveries.

The Grilled Kesong Puti with Batard Bread (Php238) was a savory start, featuring local white cheese grilled to perfection and topped with garlic, tomato, and olive oil, then served with toasted slices of batard bread. Each bite was a taste of Filipino flavors combined with a touch of elegance.

I always go back to the Mary Grace Mushroom Cream Pasta (Php498 + Php150 for Prosciutto Topping) for its velvety blend of earthy mushrooms, cream, and the salty allure of prosciutto.

My son #ExhibitB, on the other hand, is loyal to the Pasta Amatriciana with Italian Meatballs (Php433), perfectly cooked pasta bathed in a rich tomato sauce, generously adorned with succulent Italian meatballs.

Sating Hubby’s craving for hearty servings of Pinoy food was Cafe Mary Grace’s Toasted Vigan Longganisa All-Day Breakfast (Php502). The deliciously garlicky homemade local sausage offered a burst of flavors, complemented by rosemary garlic fried rice and fried eggs.

And of course, we couldn’t leave without indulging our collective sweet tooth with the Mango Bene (Php278), a luscious “summer-cake” made with frozen layers of meringue, custard cream, and fresh Philippine mangoes.

As if that weren’t enough, we also savored the Strawberry Shortcake (Php278), featuring plump strawberries nestled in whipped cream covering the tenderest sponge cake.

Delightfully Yours: Classic Favorites and New Discoveries at Conti’s, Sierra Valley

When it comes to dining out, my family’s heart belongs to places that not only serve delicious food but also offer a warm and inviting atmosphere. And that’s precisely why Conti’s Bakeshop and Restaurant has been a family favorite for years. Not only does this Filipino restaurant chain have an uncanny knack for making us feel right at home even when we’re dining out, it also gave us our first tastes of what would become our go-to dishes.

What sets Conti’s apart from other restaurants is the comforting feeling it evokes. It’s like stepping into the home of a dear friend, where the air is filled with the aroma of delightful dishes that await our taste buds.

The roots of Conti’s run deep, founded in 1997 by sisters Cecille Maranon, Carole Sumulong, and Angie Martinez, whose maiden names were Conti. They started their enterprise accepting orders by phone from their home in Paranaque and later grew the business into an national chain. This family legacy is part of Conti’s identity, and is centered on creating an environment where people can relish good food and wonderful company.

Discovering the Sierra Valley Branch

One of Conti’s newer branches is located in the Sierra Valley Commercial Center in Taytay, Rizal. As this is quite close to my home, I did not hesitate to bring Hubby and Son there for our Saturday brunch to fuel us up for our weekend errands.

This particular branch boasts a spacious and airy setting, complete with ample parking at the back. A few tables are situated outside for al fresco dining but its main dining area and bakeshop are located in the ground floor, while the second floor is occupied by function rooms well suited for private parties and celebrations.

Taking advantage of the chance to unwind and indulge ourselves in a cozy setting, we treated ourselves to a meal that include our Classic Favorites and New Discoveries.

Classic Favorites:

Our family has a knack for gravitating towards our tried-and-true favorites, and Conti’s can always be counted on for Classic Favorites always hit the spot, such as:

#BaguioEats: A delicious Mediterranean feast at Lemon & Olives Greek Taverna

My fam and I continued our food-tripping around Baguio with a lunch at one of its celebrated culinary destinations: Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna. As the first and only authentic Greek restaurant in the area, Lemon and Olives lives up to its promise of providing a delightful journey through the flavors and aromas of Greece.

We approached Lemon and Olives along Outlook Drive, a mere ten minutes drive from where we were staying, with quite a bit of excitement. After all, thanks to Hubby’s pre-trip research (mostly made up of Youtube videos of travel bloggers who’ve tried the restaurant), we’ve been looking forward to sampling to the wonders of Greek cuisine.

Exploring the Ambiance

The interior of Lemon and Olives exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for an authentic Greek dining experience. The whitewashed walls, wooden floors, and elements like wrought-iron lamps that give off warm light and tchotchkes artfully placed on shelves transported us to a comfy Greek home.

However, the real treat for diners await outside on the veranda. Surrounded by lush greenery and with a breathtaking view of the forest and mountains, the veranda provides an enchanting backdrop to any meal.

Here’s a tip: To secure the best seats and enjoy the picturesque view, make sure to get there early. We visited for lunch as soon as the restaurant opened at 11 am, but the veranda dining area – the best seats in the house with the amazing views of the mountainside – were already filled up. We had to settle for a window-side table which still had a picturesque view of the nearby forest area.

Our Journey Through Delicious Greek Flavors

Greek food is a delightful fusion of Mediterranean flavors, characterized by fresh and wholesome ingredients that celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Greece. Known for its emphasis on olive oil, feta cheese, herbs like oregano and mint, and an abundance of fresh vegetables, Greek cuisine offers a harmonious balance of savory and tangy tastes.

Our culinary journey began with the classic Greek Salad (Php390). A delightful blend of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, feta cheese, imported olive oil, and Greek olives, this salad instantly refreshed our palates.

Next, we tried the Evia Salad (Php460), a unique and refreshing combination of dried Greek figs, fresh pomegranate pearls, candied walnuts, mixed greens, and a tangy balsamic reduction.

Our taste buds continued to dance as we indulged in the Poikilia (Php420), a mixed grill platter featuring Greek village sausage, spicy soutzouki sausage, saganaki cheese, tzatziki dip, and pita bread. This truly lived up to its moniker of Parthenon of Greek Appetizers!

The highlight of our feast was undoubtedly the succulent Special Lamb Chops (Php2,220 – good for four). Tender lamb chops infused with various Greek herbs then grilled to perfection and served with a tangy sauce and assorted grilled veggies, this dish was a true culinary masterpiece.

For burger enthusiasts, the Athens Burger (Php380) is a must-try. A juicy ground beef patty topped with tzatziki dressing and fresh veggies, served in a soft brioche bun alongside a generous side of potato wedges. It’s a heavenly combination that my son had no trouble wolfing down.

To satisfy our sweet tooth, we savored the traditional Greek dessert, Ekmek (Php150). Layers of shredded crispy phyllo pastry soaked in lemon honey syrup, topped with a luscious milk custard and cream – it was pure bliss in every spoonful.

Creating Cherished Memories

Beyond the delicious food and charming ambiance, what made our experience truly special was the time spent with my husband and son. #BaguioEats: Savoring authentic Japanese delights at Chaya

Hubby and I recently took the fam on a much-deserved break in Baguio, the charming city known for its cool weather, scenic landscapes, and delightful dining experiences.

Aside from the sightseeing and the meet-ups with family and friends, the family certainly looked forward to the foodie adventures that the City of Pines has to offer.

Fortunately, Hubby’s cousin, who we make a point of meeting up with whenever we’re in Baguio, suggested Chaya – the hidden culinary gem nestled in a peaceful suburb just 10 minutes away from Session Road – for our dinner rendezvous.

Discovering Chaya’s Allure

Goin to Chaya feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. This little haven exudes warmth and coziness, making it the perfect place for an intimate family meal. The quaint residential area sets the stage for an unforgettable dining adventure.

Once inside, you’ll find yourself transported to a charming Japanese abode. Every corner is adorned with personal touches – from unique Japanese-themed decor to handcrafted quilts adorning the walls. Potted plants add a touch of nature, creating an inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.

While we missed the chance to dine in its al fresco area due to the rainy weather, we still found its interior just as enchanting. The sprawling wooden communal tables made us feel like we’re in a big family gathering. For a more intimate setting, there are also circular tables and couch seating.

Chaya Baguio
Chaya Baguio
The heart and soul of Chaya

The driving force behind Chaya is its chef and co-owner – Sonoko Taguchi. Her culinary journey started with her aunt and grandmother, who ran a restaurant in Japan. Their traditional recipes have been passed down through generations, which she then brought to Baguio for the enjoyment of its locals and visitors.

Drawn by the cool weather and the allure of fresh produce at the local market and inspired by her dream of creating Japanese dishes with a touch of the town’s supplies and flavors, Sonoko opened Chaya in 2010, which became a much-loved dining destination in Baguio.

One of the things that set Chaya apart is its commitment to green cuisine – contemporary Japanese dishes that are both authentic and delicious. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu, catering to various preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options. Here, foodies can indulge guilt-free while relishing the flavors of Japan.

Indulging in Chaya’s Culinary Offerings

Now, let’s dive into the highlight of our visit – the delectable dishes we enjoyed at Chaya.

First up, the fresh and succulent Tuna Sashimi (Php490) and Salmon Sashimi (Php490), both served with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger were a perfect start to our meal.

Chaya Baguio
Chaya Baguio

We also freshened up our palate with the Chaya Salad (Php400), made with greens topped with fresh fruits and drizzled with a fruity vinaigrette dressing.

Chaya Baguio

Next on our meal was the Chicken Karaage (Php420) – Japanese-style fried chicken that was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, a true comfort food delight, and a true favorite for my son, especially when accompanied by rich Japanese mayo.

Manam Comfort Filipino, Greenhills: A cozy culinary journey through Filipino comfort food

One of the things I look forward to every weekend is Sunday brunch with the fam. After attending mass, we usually enjoy a meal at restaurant that gives us a welcome break from our usual lutong-bahay viands and fast-food delivery fare.

One particular Sunday gave me the chance to revisit Manam Comfort Filipino. During my pre-pandemic era, I enjoyed a HappyLunch at its Trinoma branch with my officemates but I was unable to repeat the experience afterwards.

Until now.

A Warm Embrace of Filipino Comfort

Manam Comfort Filipino is a culinary gem founded by friends Abba Napa, Eliza Antonino, and Jon Syjuco. This homegrown concept by The Moment Group pays homage to the founders’ cherished childhood memories and culinary adventures. With a menu that beautifully marries tradition and innovation, Manam offers a dining experience that subtly challenges the taste of Filipino classics while remaining relatable and comforting to the contemporary Filipino palate.

The spacious interiors, adorned with light-colored furnishings and walls adorned with vibrant artwork, create an atmosphere that feels like home. It’s the kind of place where families and friends gather, creating lasting memories while enjoying the comforting flavors of Filipino cuisine.

Unfolding Hominess: A Taste of Manam’s Filipino Soul

Manam is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of heartily delicious Filipino cuisine. The name itself, derived from the Filipino word “malinamnam,” perfectly encapsulates the essence of Manam’s brand—a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to unfold hominess to all who enter. At Manam, the menu is thoughtfully divided into two categories: classics (homestyle cooking like our lolas used to make) and twists (creative versions of our favorite ulams). Serving sizes include small, medium and large, accommodating diners ranging from solo and intimate groups to family-size parties. This unique menu concept takes diners on an exciting culinary journey, indulging in a feast of comfort dishes, including both new and familiar flavors.

From the Classics:

House Crispy Sisig (Php190 small | Php340 medium | Php570). A sizzling plate with crispy pork jowl and cheek, onions, and chilis—a harmonious symphony of textures and flavors.
