A MAS PINASARAP anniversary foodie adventure at Seven Corners, Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria

A (not so) few years ago, my Significant Other and I decided to make it official and go through the adventure of married life together. The past several years had its ups and downs but they are always marked with significant milestones and great memories.

Well, these deserve to be celebrated in grand style, don’t they? So on our special day, Dear Hubby and I decided to go on a food adventure at Seven Corners, Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria’s renowned all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.

A Warm Welcome and Stylish Ambiance

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the restaurant’s chic and contemporary interiors, a result of its recent renovation. The stylish lighting, sleek furniture, stunning view of the Ortigas business district from our window seat as well as the thoughtfully placed accent pieces all created an airy, refreshing vibe that set the tone for our evening.

We arrived a bit early so we were able to witness the frenetic energy of the chefs and servers meticulously plating and staging the stations and dining areas, ensuring that the whole experience is not just a feast for the tastebuds, but for other senses as well.

Exploring the Seven Corners

Seven Corners got its name from its diverse culinary offerings from around the world, spread across seven unique stations. Each station beckoned with a promise of a gastronomic adventure, and we eagerly embarked on our culinary journey.

Salad Station. Fresh greens, sliced vegetables, and an assortment of dressings, nuts and cold cuts awaited.

Asian Station. The Asian station offered a variety of Chinese and Southeast Asian dishes, including a combination of mussels, oysters and shrimp cooked upon order in a garlicky sauce as well as a variety of noodles and add-ons for a customized bowl of heartwarming broth.

Western Station. Classic American and European dishes including grilled meats and Spanish dishes such as Rabo del Toro, Chicken ala Madrilena and Gambas al Ajillo. The US Ribeye Steak was a standout, grilled the way we want it and accompanied by a variety of sauces and seasonings to cater to our differing palates.

Filipino Station. In celebration of Philippine Independence Day, the restaurant has a dedicated Filipino station – MAS PINASARAP – that paid delightful homage to our heritage, and brought back fond memories of family gatherings, thanks to viands loved by Filpino historical luminaries such as Tinola, Pork Binagoongan, Bistek, Fish Escabeche, Pinakbet and Sisig Rice. Of course, the star of the show is the Lechon de Cebu, herb marinated suckling pig with crispy skin that gives way to tender and flavorful meat.

Dessert Station. No meal is complete without dessert, and the Dessert station did not disappoint. From miniature cakes and cookies to Filipino delicacies like puto bumbong, bibingka and suman, the variety was astounding. Plus, samalamig in the form of gulaman and melon drinks add more refreshing sweetness to the meal.

Standout Dishes and Unforgettable Moments

Throughout the evening, we were impressed by the restaurant’s commitment to quality and flavor. Signature dishes like the prime rib-eye steak and the Lechon de Cebu. The staff’s recommendations, including the especially featured Pinoy dishes like the Kesong Puti Pizza and kakanin desserts, ensured that we experienced the best Seven Corners had to offer while exploring homegrown flavors.

Our anniversary celebration at Seven Corners was more than just a meal; it was our journey together through a world of flavors, expertly curated and beautifully presented. The combination of world-class service, exquisite dishes, and a stylish, comfortable setting made for a memorable evening, worthy of our very special occasion.

Rediscovering Filipino Cuisine at Kingsford Cafe’s Filipino Food Festival

Over the past few years, Filipino food has been slowly but surely getting the recognition it deserves as a truly world-class cuisine. Characterized by Spanish, Chinese and Indian influences as well as regional cultures, Filipino cuisine has been noted to offer rich diversity and bold flavors.

However, most Pinoys tend to take their homegrown dishes for granted. That doesn’t apply to Kingsford Hotel’s Executive Chef Angelo Chubby Timban. A seasoned chef with accolades in international cooking competitions, Chef Chubby is known for his creativity and passion for the craft. His culinary philosophy is deeply rooted in his Filipino upbringing, yet redefined through modern European techniques and contemporary Asian executions.

In celebration of Filipino cuisine

Kingsford Cafe’s Filipino Food Festival, an all-you-can-eat buffet held Friday and Saturday evenings this June, offers a feast that is as much about rediscovering one’s roots as it is about indulging in a spectacular array of dishes from across the archipelago.

A homey yet elegant setting for Filipino culinary explorations

Located at the ground floor of Kingsford Hotel Manila, the Kingsford Cafe is fusion of modern elegance and cultural homage. Since its opening in late 2021, the hotel’s cafe has become a favored destination for both travelers and locals seeking a unique culinary experience. The cafe’s contemporary design and cozy interiors, complemented by beautiful wall art, create an inviting ambiance perfect for enjoying a meal that celebrates Filipino heritage.

With a seating capacity of up to 128 guests, Kingsford Cafe is well-equipped to host the bustling crowds that the festival attracts. Its sectioned dining areas offer an intimate setting for private gatherings, making it an ideal spot for family celebrations or intimate get-togethers.

A journey through flavors of the Philippines

The festival is more than just a buffet; it’s a comprehensive tour of the Philippines through its diverse regional cuisines. Guests are invited to explore dishes from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, each offering a unique taste of the country’s culinary landscape.

4 reasons to head to the newly re-opened 121 Restaurant, Eastwood City

As our days become ever busier with responsibilities at work claiming more and more of our time and energy, it feels good to escape at the end of our work day and just let loose with our friends from time to time, doesn’t it?

And where better to do those than at the innovator of Manila nightlife? Here are 4 reasons my foodies friends I discovered on why your after-hours destination should be the newly re-opened 121 Restaurant in Eastwood City.

1. Its location at the center of the action.

Located along Eastwood Citywalk in Eastwood City Libis, 121 Restaurant is easily accessible to people from all over the metro. Plus, if you reside in one of the Eastwood City condos or work in one of the surrounding offices you also get to enjoy quick access to this prime destination.

2. Its recently refreshed interiors

If you’re a long-time regular of 121 Restaurant, you will definitely note a significant transformation in its decor. Brighter colors and updated furnishings welcome you and provide a lovely setting for your meal. Plus, colorful murals pay tribute to the locale – there’s one depicting the BPO workers that populate Eastwood City and one of renowned indigenous tattoo artist Wang Od.

These aesthetic changes elevate 121 Restaurant from a simple night-time eatery into an all-day culinary haven.

Whether you find the prospect of an all-you-can-eat buffet daunting or you’re a seasoned buffet diner, here are a few tips to make sure that you maximize your time there:

  • Start small. Sample small portions of a variety of dishes. This allows you to taste everything without getting full too quickly.
  • Prioritize. If you’re a carnivore like me, go for the higher-cost items (like seafood, meats, and specialty dishes) if you want to get the best value.
  • Mix It Up. Alternate between different types of food (proteins, vegetables, carbs) to keep your palate interested and avoid flavor fatigue.
  • Pace Yourself. Eat slowly and take breaks. This helps with digestion and allows you to enjoy the meal longer without feeling uncomfortably full.
  • Post-Meal Activity. If possible, take a walk after your meal. It aids digestion and can help you feel less bloated. Fortunately, Gateway Mall is just a few steps away!

A taste of authentic Indian cuisine at Annapoorna, Quezon City

For a long time, I thought that Indian food is not for me. Having grown up with an aversion to spicy viands, as well as a strong bias towards my mom’s Pinoy home cooking combined with Western fare courtesy of movies and TV shows, South Asian cuisine to me was as exotic and almost alien as food can get.

Thankfully, I later developed a more adventurous palate, thanks largely to my husband who, over the years, took the necessary pains to introduce me to food items that have a little more kick to them.

It just so happens that one of his favorite cuisines is Indian food.

So when Annapoorna opened its branch right across my office building, I was more than ready to give it a try.

Indian cuisine is a celebration of diversity, with each region boasting its own unique culinary traditions and signature dishes. Fortunately, when Annapoorna serves up these diverse options, it makes them fresh upon order so that spice levels can be customized. This way, aside from bringing an authentic taste of home to its loyal clientele of Indian nationals residing nearby, it also allows us Pinoys who are unfamiliar with Indian food to easily expand our culinary horizons with its offerings.

Curious on delicious dishes that await at Annapoorna? Check these out:

Annapoorna, QC
Tandoori Chicken (Php569). Young birds infused with traditional Tandoori marinade that gives it the dish a bright red hue.
Annapoorna, QC
Malai Chicken Tikka (Php399). Tender chicken fillets marinated and cooked in a creamy cashew and cardamon sauce.
Annapoorna, QC
Chicken Tikka Masala (Php425) and Lamb Rogan Josh (Php499), best enjoyed with Naans (Indian flatbreads) such as plain (Php85), garlic (Php109) and cheese (P119).
Annapoorna, QC
Butter Chicken (Php409). Creamy chicken curry with tomato cashew gravy and lots of butter which also goes well with rice and naan.
Annapoorna, QC
Lamb Biryani (Php565). Traditional one-pot dish wherein tender bits of lamb curry is layered with fragrant saffron rice.
Annapoorna, QC
Chicken Biryani (Php509). A deliciously filling rice preparation made with chicken, eggs and spices are cooked in fragrant Basmati rice.
Annapoorna, QC
Ghee Roast Dosa (Php269). Traditional crispy Indian pancake made with ghee and served with Sambar and chutney sauces.
Annapoorna, QC
Pani Puri (Php250). Hollowed out crispy-fried puff ball with potato, chickpeas, onions and spices to be filled tamarind flavored water before popping into your mouth.

A sumptuous array of flavors at your fingertips at Annapoorna!

From personal experience, exploring new and unfamiliar cuisines may seem daunting at first, but, if my foray into Indian cuisine at Annapoorna is anything to go by, the delicious discoveries you’re bound to make are definitely well worth the effort!

Annapoorna, QC

Here are some tips to prime you up for this extraordinary gustatory experience and make your dining journey at Annapoorna even more memorable:

  • Start mild. Indian food may be known for its myriad of spices but it does include milder dishes like Butter Chicken and Malai Chicken tikka to get you started. Ask the staff for recommendations or request for milder versions of the spicier dishes.
  • Use your hands. Annapoorna’s naans are great for scooping up meats and dipping into flavorful sauces.
  • Enjoy the accompaniments. You’ll notice that most of the dishes are accompanied by dips and sauces that add a whole new dimension of flavors to the dishes.
  • Bring your friends and fam along. Most of Annapoorna’s dishes are good for two to three people so go ahead and share the experience with your loved ones.

Head over to Annapoorna’s branches for a taste of delicious and authentic Indian cooking, open for dine-in and orders from 11am to 1am:
