Considering that Indian cuisine has always been cited as one of the most delicious in the world, it is a wonder that it is not listed among my favorites.
I would probably blame it on a particularly spicy curry dish which was served to me when I was young, which then turned me off the entire culinary tradition for quite some time.
Articles from various food mavens attribute the appeal of Indian cuisine to its healthy ingredients (lots of vegetarian dishes!), its use of a wide array of fresh spices and its practice of combining contrasting flavors in its dishes.
Well, Hubby is an Indian food fan, who for over fifteen years marriage, has been largely unsuccessful in converting me to Indian food.
Until recently, that is.
While we were running some arounds around Bonifacio Global City, Hubby took the opportunity to introduce my daughter #ExhibitA and I to Indian cuisine at New Bombay.
Here, we enjoyed a flavorful lunch which consisted of:
Vegetable Kadai (Php355). Delicately spiced North Indian dish made of assorted vegetables cooked in a red gravy using the Indian equivalent of the wok, called the kadai, from which the dish gets its name.
Butter Naan (Php95). A butter-infused yeast-leavened white flour bread baked in a clay oven called tandoor.
Chef’s Special – Mutton Dry (Php395). Mutton sauteed in various Indian spices and served dry with a special desi gravy on the side. I paired this with the butter naan by wrapping mutton morsels in pieces I tore off the naan.
Chicken Biryani (Php395). Delicious Indian rice dish made with basmati rice layered with chicken pieces and spices then steamed together to produce an aromatic and flavorful viand with a subtle heat.
Lassi (Php125). Sweet blended drink made with fruit, yogurt and spices.
Mango Lassi.
Strawberry Lassi
Since we were able to request the kitchen to set the spiciness of the dishes to very mild, we were able to enjoy their exotic flavors and the slight tickling sensation of heat in palates.
Now, I wouldn’t mind trying out more of Indian cuisine in my future foodie adventures.

I realized that I’ve been working quite hard for the past year.
Despite the convenience of working from home, I’ve been attending lots of meetings, preparing reports, overseeing projects and so on.
With all the job-related stresses I go through each day, it’s only right to treat myself to something posh and delicious, right?
Well, treat myself, I did, at two different occasions at Wildflour Cafe in Uptown, BGC.
Wildflour has been a popular brunch and bistro cafe since 2012, known for its creative menu that incorporates influences from the world’s best cuisines and makes use of ingredients sourced the best organic and local markets.
Its branches also have their own in-house bakery that supplies them with a wide assortment of freshly baked and premium-quality breads, pastries and cakes.
Saturday lunch with my daughter
On a Saturday after a particularly busy workweek for me (and during my daughter #ExhibitA’s lunchbreak from her work which, as luck would have it, sometimes requires her to work on weekends, we decided to have our midday repast at the Wildflour Cafe branch in Uptown, BGC.
During our lunch break escapade, #ExhibitA and I indulged ourselves with Wildflour’s continental dishes such as:
Beef Bourguignon (Php995).
Tender, chunk of beef slowly stewed in red wine sauce with mushrooms and served on a bed of pureed pumpkin.
Goat Cheese Ravioli (Php565).
Ravioli filled with buttery and tart goat cheese tossed in a tomato-sauce infused with basil harvested from Wildflour’s own garden.
Tres Leches (Php320).
Chiffon cake doused in dulce de leche and vanilla kappa and topped with fresh berries.
Partner these culinary creations with Wildflour’s relaxing and rustic old-world ambiance as well as its gracious and hospitable service, then you have a truly world-class dining experience.
Sunday brunch with former co-workers
A few weeks later, I met up with my former officemates to catch up and reminisce over brunch at the al fresco area of this same cafe.
Here, we broke our fast with breakfast bowls such as:
Beef Tapa (Php595).
Tender strips of pan-fried marinated beef on top of garlic fried rice and served with fried eggs and atchara.
Adobo Fried Rice (Php630).
Pork belly braised in garlic, vinegar and soy sauce served with fried egg and pickled chilis on Dalisay rice.
Bacon Fried Rice (Php625).
Thick slabs of bacon steak served with fried egg on top of fried rice.
Now, not all of us enjoy rice for our first meal of the day so some went to sandwiches and pastries from Wildflour’s bakery, which include:
Salmon Avocado Toast (Php595).
Slivers of smoked salmon and mashed avocado topped with cucumber slices, tomato, olives and dill on butter toasted bread.
Corned Beef Hand Pie (Php135).
A flaky turnover pastry filled with savory corned beef.
Hazelnut Cronut (Php170).
The variant of Wildflour’s flaky croissant-donut hybrid topped with dark chocolate swirl and chopped hazelnuts.
And what would brunch be without drinks?
Caffeine freaks went for handmade hot coffee variants while I cooled down with an Avocado milkshake.
Cappuccino (Php185)
Flat White (Php175)
Latte (Php175)
Avocado Milkshake (Php295)
Whether indoors or al fresco, Wildflour Cafe does fit the bill for up-leveled dining. And what better way to reward myself than to splurge on world-class eats, right?

Thai food remains one of the world most popular and influential cuisines in the world. From the humble street food that can be enjoyed in Thailand’s marketplaces to the Thai-inspired dishes served by high profile chefs, Thai food continues to entice, titillate and satisfy the imagination and taste buds of foodies throughout the globe.
Its appeal can be attributed to its wide range of flavors and textures – combining fresh and crisp veggies, bold spices, sweet coconut and earthy savory peanuts. Aside from incorporating many nutritious ingredients and employing mostly healthy cooking methods, Thai food also offers a lot of delicious options for people with dietary restrictions and preferences.
This is why the opening of a new Thai restaurant in one of the metro’s busiest shopping areas is happy news to me and my foodie friends.
Sala Thai Kitchen welcomes its guests with a chill yet elegant vibe which also integrates elements of Thai culture and aesthetics from its backdrop of knick-knacks to its delicately designed tableware.
We immersed ourselves in a delicious flavor journey with these scrumptious dishes:

Rice & Noodles

Thidin Pad Thai (Php330). One of Thailand’s most well-known dishes made with stir-fried noodles and chicken bits in a sweet-savory-sour sauce garnished with an omelette, crushed peanuts and cilantro.
Siam Chicken Noodles (Php340). Noodles flavored with a coconut turmeric sauce topped with black pepper chicken.

Disclosure: I attended a food tasting held at this restaurant where food items were served at no cost to the attendees.
Food destinations abound in Bonifacio Global City, giving foodies that frequent the area with an exciting array of options for gastronomic adventures.
Uptown Mall, for example, is the site of one such establishment: Tendon Kohaku.
A member of the Mugen Group which also manages other Japanese restaurant brands such as UCC Cafe, Mitsuyado Seimen, MOS Burger and Coco Ichibanya, Tendon Kohaku specializes in tendon, a wordplay on tempura (lightly battered and deep-fried meat, seafood or vegetables) and donburi (“rice bowl”).
Here, Japanese food lovers can look forward to an elevated tempura experience, made possible by four elements:
Fresh Ingredients. Only the freshest ingredients, chosen with professional care according to exacting standards, are used in Tendon Kohaku’s tempura dishes.
Tempura Batter. Tendon Kohaku’s tempura better is using premium-grade flour and employing traditional tempura techniques to produce a coating that is light, crispy and flavorful.
Cooking Technology. The restaurant uses a high blend of sesame and cooking oil applied with a special filtration system that keeps it clean and light for cooking.
Secret Sauce. Tendon Kohaku’s two signature sauces are made in-house using a special blend of spices to create a distinctively sweet-savory flavor. The Sweet sauce is crafted to balance out the saltiness of the tempura while the Spicy sauce does the same with an additional spicy kick.
To give my daughter a change of scene away from her workplace nearby, I decided to treat her to lunch at Tendon Kohaku.
Our meal started with the complementary Japanese tea, available hot and iced.
We opted to get teishoku – Japanese set meals that already include rice, tuna sashimi, tamago rolls and potato salad – quite a complete and nourishing meal that combines interesting flavors and textures.
My order was the Tempura Teishoku (Php590) which consist of various tempura such as Chicken Breast, Wild Tiger Prawns, Squid, Crabstick, Green Beans, Shiitake, Young Corn and Pumpkin accompanied by tempura sauce.
My daughter, on the other hand, opted for the Tonkatsu Teishoku (Php650), which consist of three slices of panko-breaded and deep-fried pork cutlets served with katsu sauce.
With these teishoku, my daughter and I were able to enjoy a filling meal during her lunch break.
Tendon Kohaku is located at the Third Floor, Uptown Mall, 36th Street, Uptown Bonifacio, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, open for dine-in, pick-up, takeout and delivery. For inquiries, reservations and orders, call +63 956 2792961.

Christmas shopping is quite frenetic and stressful, isn’t it?
The holiday season brings in throngs of people to the malls, and the mad rush for gifts and other essentials for the season can make one feel oppressed or irritable.
When this happens, do you know what can help?
A cup of sweet tea, that’s what!
After a bout of shopping and a quick lunch at SM Megamall, the kids and I were craving for something sweet, as well as wishing for a place to sit.
Fortunately, Serenitea has a branch at Mega Fashion Hall where we can rest and recharge ourselves while sipping our refreshing tea drinks that included:
Hokkaido Milk Tea with Egg Pudding (Php130) for my daughter #ExhibitA, who loves all things Japanese.
Traditional Milk Tea with Pearl Sinkers (Php105) for Hubby. He always did prefer the no-frills classic drink.
Choco Cookies Milk Tea (Php160) for my son #ExhibitB who loves drinks that double as desserts.
Thai Milk Tea (Php150) for me, since it brings the strong taste of Thai tea.
Did you know that Serenitea introduced the use of an espresso machine to brew tea in the country? Back then, they already offered the options to customers to personalize their drinks by adjusting the sweetness level and the addition of sinkers.
During the quarantine, Serenitea also launched its DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Home Kits, allowing house-bound milk tea lovers to enjoy their favorite drink even when stuck at home.
Today, however, we can all just drop by any of its branches to enjoy its concoctions!
So go ahead and enjoy some sweet and refreshing serenity at Serenitea!
This Serenitea branch is located at the Fifth Floor, Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall, EDSA, Mandaluyong City, open daily from 10am to 8pm.

Are you certified carnivores like me and my family?
We just can’t seem to resist the sight, sound, feel and flavor of juicy, freshly grilled meat, especially if it comes in the form of hefty burgers.
There’s little wonder then that 8 Cuts Burger Blends remains as one of our go-to burger places.
The store got its name from the eight types of beef cuts which are blended to produce varied but perfectly flavorful and juicy burger patties that make up the different burger options that the store carries.
Each beef burger patty is at least a quarter pound, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions, then drizzled with the corresponding sauces and sandwiched between fluffy buns.
Aside from burgers, the restaurant also offers appetizers, sides, desserts and drinks to complete a burger meal.
Before a family movie date as SM Cinema, the fam stopped over for dinner at 8 Cuts Burger Blends in Mega Fashion Hall where we enjoyed:
Golden Cheddar Mozza Nuggets (Php220 solo | Php395 sharing). Large pieces of gooey mozzarella and cheddar encased in crunchy breading. Really, how could anyone go wrong with this much cheese?
Bucket of Onion Rings (Php235). Onion rings battered, deep-fried and seasoned until crispy and flavorful. Being such big fans of onion rings, we consider this bucket quite a steal!
Cheeseburger (Php250 for 1/4lb | Php320 for 1/3lb). Grilled quarter-pounder beef patty on lettuce, tomato and onions and topped with house cheddar and Sauce No. 3. This upgrade to the regular fastfood cheeseburger is a sure hit with my son..
Bleu 2.0 (Php325 for 1/4lb | Php390 for 1/3lb). House-blend patty drizzled with Bleu Cheese Sauce and topped with Bleu Cheese crumble, caramelized onions, peppered onion tanglers and crisp green lettuce. This continental twist to the burger is the one that appealed to my daughter.
Four Cheese 2.0 (Php325 for 1/4lb | Php390 for 1/3lb). Burger patty topped with parmesan-crusted mozzarella, sharp yellow cheddar, Monterey Jack, Garlic Aioli, Fried Basil, and Sauce No. 3. Again, I say: how could anyone go wrong with this much cheese?
Q-Daddy (Php345 for 1/4lb | Php415 for 1/3lb). Grilled quarter-pounder patty on lettuce, tomato and onions, topped with peppered onion tanglers, sharp yellow cheddar, smoked bacon, jalapeno ranch, sweet BBQ sauce and Sauce No. 3. This dad-sized burger really suits my Hubby.
With these hearty burgers and sides, the fam is sure that a filling and flavorful meal always awaits us at 8 Cuts Burger Blends.

It’s so nice to finally be able to eat out, right?
During the height of the pandemic, community quarantine restrictions specifically prohibit buffet-type setups due to the difficulty in maintaining physical distancing, especially as diners tend to congregate in various food stations to fill their plates.
Nowadays, however, all-you-can-eat buffets are making their comeback. One of these eateries is DADS World Buffet.
Having been around for over thirty years, DADS was among the first dining establishments to make buffet dining popular and accessible to more Filipinos.
Growing up in the 90s, I recall that most of my family’s celebrations such as birthdays, reunions and more were held at DADS. Its a great way to ensure that everyone can eat their fill of their preferred menu items, while keeping to a budget. DADS’ group and birthday promos also came in handy to this end.
Arroz Caldo and Tokwa’t Baboy
Kamayan Kuhol sa Gata
Fresh Fruits in Season
Kamayan Kare-Kare
Fast forward to today, I can say the DADS has not lost its appeal. In fact, I can cite three reasons why the family’s food trip should be held at DADS World Buffet.
1. It’s easily accessible.
Located in SM Megamall, DADS World Buffet is a short ride from most parts of the metro (not counting traffic, that is!). Also, anyone who’s organized a family party know that half the battle is getting the people to the venue. Since this restaurant is situated in one of the city’s most popular malls, getting lost along the way won’t be a problem.
Lechon de Leche
Bagnet and Lechon Belly
Kamayan Callos
Kamayan Paella Valenciana
2. It offers a world of culinary choices.
DADS World Buffet brings together celebrated dishes from all over the world, including local favorites. These include:
Philippines. A delectable curation of Kamayan’s roster of heritage dishes.
Asia. Includes dishes from Chine, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand
TheMediterranean. An epicure’s dream which includes dishes from Spain, Italy and Greece
The Americas. From hearty all-American viands from the United States to South American favorites from Mexico and Brazil.
Saisaki Sushi
Saisaki Ebi Tempura
Japanese Dishes
Saisaki Katsu
Personally, the sheer magnitude of food choices available at DADS World Buffet have the added benefit of eliminating food envy. That’s the feeling of looking over to what other people are eating and wishing that you ordered the same. At DADS, you can easily load your plate with whatever catches your fancy.
Appetizers
Pasta
Salads
Burger Sliders
3. Its promos will give you more bang for your buffet buck.
Walk-ins are charged P958/person but you can enjoy savings when you dine at DADS World Buffet by taking advantage of these offers:

When the news hit that the iconic Los Angeles-based donut shop will be coming to Philippine shores, it set the metro’s foodies all abuzz.
This donut shop, of course, is Randy’s Donuts.
Foodies who are also well-versed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will also recognize its distinctive giant rooftop donut signage as the site where Iron Man was having his breakdown before his conversation with Nick Fury and Black Widow.
The opening of its first and second Philippine branches in BGC’s Uptown Parade and Pasay’s S Maison respectively were met with long lines of enthusiastic donut aficionados.
There is little wonder then, that its third branch in Robinsons Magnolia was also greeted with the same excitement. After all, donut lovers will always appreciate more convenient ways to get their sweet fix.
Randy’s Donuts is known worldwide for its large and fluffy donuts, available in forty classic (Php105 each), deluxe (Php120) and fancy (Php120) flavors.
Fortunately for us Pinoys, The Bistro Group, the people behind well-loved restaurant brands in the Philippines such as TGI Fridays, Buffalo Wild Wings, Denny’s and Hard Rock Cafe, saw fit to bring this iconic donut to our shores.
During a shopping trip at Robinsons Magnolia, my daughter #ExhibitA and I gamely lined up at the Randy’s Donuts store to bring home a box of our preferred sweet treats. These include:
Glazed Raised.
Maple Raised.
Chocolate Raised.
Pink Raised with Sprinkles.
Nutella Raised.
Raspberry Jelly Filled.
Strawberry Jelly Filled.
With such confections awaiting us at Randy’s Donuts, it won’t be long until we’re craving for another sweet fix, am I right?
And guess what! I still have lots more of Randy’s Donut flavors left to try!
This Randy’s Donuts is located at the Ground Floor, Robinsons Magnolia, Aurora Blvd, corner Doña Hemady St, New Manila, Quezon City, Metro Manila.
Other branches are located at:
Taguig: Uptown Parade BGC, Bonifacio High Street South BGC
