Room 104 returns for final season on 25 July exclusively on HBO GO and Cinemax

Room 104 returns for its fourth and final season same time as the U.S. on Saturday, 25 July at 11am exclusively on HBO GO and Cinemax, with a same day encore at 11pm on Cinemax. Created by Mark and Jay Duplass (HBO’s “Animals.” and “Togetherness”), the late-night, half-hour anthology series returns with 12 new episodes, each telling a unique and unexpected tale of the characters who pass through a single room of a typical American chain motel. While the setting stays the same, every episode of the series features a different story, with the tone, plot, characters, and even the time period, changing with each instalment. New episodes premiere every Saturday at the same time while all past three seasons of the series are available to stream or download on HBO GO.

Exploring a variety of genres, from dark comedy to sci-fi, to the series’ first ever animated episode and original songs, this season will continue to surprise viewers week to week. The premiere episode will be the first time in the series that Mark Duplass stars, writes, directs and performs original music. Stories and characters featured in season four include: an estranged performer giving a one-night-only performance; a woman battling her dark past with addiction; a dollhouse; transporting back in time; and a retired pro wrestler played by Dave Bautista. Providing one last glimpse into the lives of the guests in Room 104, the final season of the genre bending, and risk-taking anthology proves to be another showcase of writing, performing and directing.

Classic sugary treats from Cucina ni Sheng

We all need a little (or in my case, a lot!) of sweetness in our lives.

Those little sugary treats can sometimes spell the difference between a disappointingly sad or a sweetly satisfying end to a day. (Foodies, don’t ever underestimate the power of a good dessert!)

That’s what you can expect from Cucina ni Sheng: classic desserts made with love. Every weekend, you can anticipate honest-to-goodness treats to sate your sweet tooth.

Cucina ni Sheng

This little cucina is run by mompreneur Sheng Magcalas left her corporate job a few years ago to take care of her newborn. Aside from her daily routine of house chores and child care tasks, she also took up baking as a hobby and would sometimes gift her creations to friends and family.

However, the recent quarantine heightened her anxiety. Seeking a distraction, she tried out different recipes and expanded her baking repertoire. After three months of trial and error, she grew confident of her baking skills, enough to venture into online selling.

And thus, Cucina ni Sheng came to be.

Sheng takes pride in her little home-based operation: her cucina’s offerings are not outrageous nor avant-garde, just classic desserts that are tasty and affordable, such as:

Calamansi Muffins (Php180/6 pieces). The tangy taste of freshly squeezed calamansi juice adds a zesty, palate-tickling highlight to this fluffy and buttery muffin. It’s perfect when taking a break and leisurely enjoying a cup of your favorite coffee.

Celebrities give us all the feels with McDonald’s Kita-kits song

They’re missing their McDonald’s favorites just like you

Life as we know it has changed in just a short span of time. While leisure trips, meet-ups and celebrations are limited at the moment, McDonald’s, with its recently launched Kita-Kits with McDo campaign, showed that spontaneous feel-good moments in the new normal are still very much possible!

Bringing a message of positivity, their Kita-Kits video reminds us that though we may not be able to experience our old routines, new memories can still be made anytime, anywhere with McDonald’s.

The video is set against the backdrop of the iconic song Kita-kits sa McDo originally sung by Sharon Cuneta, adding a hint of nostalgia that makes you look back at your favorite McDonald’s moments. Iconic as it is, celebrities Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, Michael V., and Judy Ann Santos have caught the LSS bug and have shared their own rendition of the song on social media. You can check out the video of your favorite celebrities singing along to this the heart-warming tune on Facebook.

“This period of adjustment to the new reality has not been easy, and many of us may be at a loss how to move forward. Here at McDonald’s, it is our mission to make feel-good moments easy for everyone,” says Margot B. Torres, Managing Director of McDonald’s Philippines. “The current circumstances have certainly changed our lives, but we will always find ways to celebrate and be with family and friends.  Wherever you are, McDonald’s will be with you so you can make memories and enjoy delicious food.”

If you haven’t seen McDonald’s latest video, kita-kits at McDonald’s Philippines Youtube or McDonald’s Facebook Page.

Ben&Ben portrays family drama on “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin” music video

Award-winning Filipino band Ben&Ben explores the complicated dynamics of a fictional family in the music video of “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin.”

Revolving around a realistic depiction of a family on the verge of dysfunction, the narrative hits home with each member learning how to listen to each other, and speak their minds.

It also examines the flawed but beautiful relationships that we nurture within the family, and the decisions we make in extraordinary circumstances.

Helmed by “Pagtingin” music video director Jorel Lising, the intimate piece features ensemble acting performances by Agot Isidro, Bart Guingona, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, and Kelvin Miranda.

Lising’s compelling take on Ben&Ben’s massive hit has earned praises from various publications in the country. Renuel Fallore of MYX shares that the “cinematic music video couldn’t have come at a better time,” and reflects on its importance in today’s socio-political landscape. Bandwagon Asia, in its coverage of the song’s official tease a few months ago, took notice of the song’s evocative lyrics, which remind “people that COVID-19 remains to be the common enemy in this difficult time,” and therefore needs critical attention and vigilance.

As of July 14, Tuesday, the “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin” music video is currently trending on YouTube with more than 300,000 views in four days.

On Spotify alone, Ben&Ben’s latest single has reached more than a million streams in its second week, making it one of the biggest releases of the month so far.

“Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin” is now out on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music.

Pinoy street food for #TeamBahay from Mang Ding’s Pinoy BBQ

Momshies, do you sometimes wish that you could enjoy your guilty pleasures – like Pinoy street food – in full view of your kids?

Well, no need to hide your street food fix from your kids. In fact, you can take this opportunity to introduce them to Pinoy street food.

It’s all thanks to Mang Ding’s Pinoy BBQ and its frozen ready-to-grill Malinis, Masarap at Mura street food.

Mang Ding’s is where I had my first (and only!) taste of isaw. There, during a foodie meetup with fellow food bloggers, I had a whole lot of fun rediscovering tasty Pinoy street food, all freshly cooked at Mang Ding’s Instagrammable al fresco restaurant.

Mang Ding’s, Marikina

When Marikina was placed under quarantine and restrictions were placed on mobility and dining out, Mang Ding’s started offering its fare in frozen and ready-to-grill packs.

Mang Ding’s Marikina

Each pack is frozen and vacuum-sealed, its contents seasoned and marinated with Mang Ding’s signature sauce.

Tonight, I flexed my indoor grilling muscles, got out my grilling pan and got to grilling.

And wouldn’t you believe it: it was actually quite easy!

First, I thawed out the frozen pack containing the pork barbecue and isaw. Then, I added six tablespoons of cooking oil to the basting sauce provided. I then brushed both sides of the meats while they were grilling until they’re done.

From the satisfying sizzle you hear as they grill, to the appetizing smell of barbecue wafting throughout the kitchen that had my eldest #ExhibitA blurt out “Ang bango, Ma!“, to the beautiful spread these make on my dining table, and to the my fam’s joy as we bite into the tender sweet-savory pork barbecue, isaw manok and isaw baboy, my fam’s Mang Ding’s Pinoy BBQ dinner is a feast for the senses.

Shopee sees growth in digital payments as Filipinos adjust to the New Normal

While 70% of purchases made through digital payments were by younger users, Shopee also saw an increased adoption among users aged over 50.

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, saw an acceleration in digital payments as Filipinos fulfill more daily needs online amidst the ongoing pandemic. Shopee saw an increase in the number of digital payments made on the platform since the beginning of the pandemic. More people paid for their purchases via credit cards, bank transfers, and ShopeePay. According to a Boston Consulting Group report, this trend will continue as more Southeast Asian households embrace digital payments during and after Covid-19.

Martin Yu, Associate Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “2020 has brought about significant shifts in the way we live, work and shop online. Among these shifts is the accelerated move towards a cashless society across the region. In line with social distancing efforts, we see consumers embracing digital payments for greater convenience and security. Local governments are also stepping up their efforts to encourage this move. Similarly, Shopee continues to offer a wide range of digital payment options to cater to evolving needs, including ShopeePay, our mobile wallet.”

Shopee outlines three observations on digital payments in the Philippines:

  • Increased adoption of digital payments among older users: 70% of the total number of purchases made using digital payments were by users between the ages of 18 to 34. However, older users are also starting to adopt digital payments when shopping online. Shopee observed a 100% increase in the number of ShopeePay transactions among users over the age of 50. Given that older users typically find it harder to adapt to digital payments, this heartening trend illustrates the ease of use of ShopeePay and the trust it has built among users.
  • Men’s adoption of digital payments is higher than women: Men increasingly value the convenience and security of digital payments. Over the past year, the rate of growth in the adoption of digital payments is 80% higher for men than for women.
  • Digital payments are more prevalent in urban cities: The National Capital Region (NCR) has the highest digital payment adoption. Larger cities, which are critical drivers of the Philippines’ economic growth, have better connectivity and a more developed IT infrastructure. Individuals in these cities also have better accessibility to smartphones, contributing to the adoption of digital payments.

Shopee is committed to meeting the needs of its users. Through its integrated mobile wallet, ShopeePay, Shopee strives to ensure that users can shop and pay with ease. In addition to the ease of use, ShopeePay offers several benefits to users, including convenience, a seamless user experience, security, and more significant cost savings.

Convenient and easy to top-up: ShopeePay is easy to top-up through a variety of methods. These include online banking, payment centers, and over-the-counter bank transactions. Through ShopeePay, users can make online payments, top-up their wallets, transfer, and withdraw funds.

Safe and secure payment method: ShopeePay follows the highest security standards. An automated registration process protects the user, and there is also a dedicated 24h Customer Service team.

Greater cost savings with ShopeePay promotions: ShopeePay users can enjoy the following regular promotions:

  • Mobile Load: New users can earn 30 coins when they buy ₱100 worth of load, while regular users get big discounts when they buy load via ShopeePay.
  • Bills Payment: Users can claim 150 to 350 coins (with ₱800 minimum spend) when they pay their utility bills via ShopeePay.
  • ShopeePay Day: Users can enjoy free shipping with ₱0 minimum spend on ShopeePay Thursdays. They can also enjoy up to 20% off discount with minimum spending of ₱200.

Yu closed, “As more consumers turn to our platform to stay connected and fulfill their daily needs, we are committed to leveraging our key strengths to help consumers adapt to the new normal. We want to provide our users with easy access to digital payment services such as ShopeePay, through an integrated and secure ecosystem.”

Your faves at Buy One Get One at TGI Fridays

Until July 31, customers can enjoy Buy One Get One deals on TGI Fridays’ most popular dishes on their designated days.

Miss eating out and dealing with a monster appetite? Here’s some good news: you can feast on your American comfort food faves twice over at TGI Fridays!

TGI Fridays, BGC

That’s what I did with my friend EJ of ILoveToEatPH this Sunday when we met up at TGI Fridays Boni High Street in BGC.

TGI Fridays, BGC

It’s been a while since we last saw each other, and quite a long while since I last ate out. And what better place to meet up and catch up than at TGI Fridays?

TGI Fridays, BGC

This global restaurant chain started in 1960s New York when Alan Stillman established a bar at the corner of 63rd and First Streets. There, he served big American burgers and beer always available on tap for his guests, making sure that they’re having a great time.

TGI Fridays, BGC

TGI Fridays is where friends and family can come together to eat their favorite American comfort food and enjoy a lively and energetic vibe. Plus, they can dine here confident that the resto is equipped to serve them in the New Normal.

When TGI Fridays re-opened for dine-in service last June 15, it has already adopted protocols and new service processes that help to safeguard the health and safety of its customers. These include:

  • Reduction of its seating capacity
  • Requirement of facemasks, temperature checks and use of disinfection mats prior to entry
  • Provision of hand sanitizers at the takeout, service, cashier and restroom/handwashing areas
  • Updating of floor plans and table arrangements to enable diners to maintain physical distancing
  • Adoption of no-contact processes (online via QR codes) for health declarations, menu ordering and payments

And to sweeten the experience of people venturing out to eat after extended home stays, TGI Fridays has extended its Buy One Get One Everyday offer. Until July 31, customers can enjoy BOGO deals on TGI Fridays’ most popular dishes on their designated days:

  • Mondays: Fridays Signature Burger, Fridays Cheeseburger and Shiitake Truffle Burger
  • Tuesdays: Baby Back Ribs
  • Wednesdays: Chicken Fingers
  • Thursdays: Fridays Liempo
  • Fridays: Fridays Mozzarella
  • Saturdays: Three-Meat Platter
  • Sundays: Seafood Platter

EJ and I munched on two orders of the Seafood Platter for just Php1,450, thanks to this BOGO deal. Each platter contains fried calamari, fish ‘n chips (battered white fish fillet and fries) and battered shrimp, accompanied by marinara and tartar sauce.

We also sipped a couple of refreshing Classic Mojitos (Php385) made with rum, mint and soda (although I asked mine to be made sans the alcohol – don’t drink and drive, folks!) and munched on complimentary nachos while waiting for our orders.

Dining out in the New Normal may involve new protocols that may take some getting used to. But, with great food and the company of great friends, who’s to say the experience won’t be as enjoyable as before?

Oh, and did I say that the Buy One Get One Everyday Promo is available for dine, to-go, pick up and delivery via GrabFood?

A Subway Snack Attack

Busy working at home but in need of some nourishment to plow through your tasks?

Not to worry because you can easily have a tasty and filling sub from Subway delivered right to your doorstep!

Subway, Libis

The sub, or the submarine, is a sandwich made with a length of bread split lengthwise and filled meats, cheeses, vegetables and condiments. It is so-named because of its distinctive shape, but has also been called hoagie, hero or grinder.

Subway, the world’s largest single-brand restaurant chain, specializes in submarine sandwiches, some of which, my kiddos and I were able to sample when Hubby ordered a few subs for our mid-afternoon snack. These include:

6-inch BLT (Php276). People say that great things come in threes. In the case of this sandwich, those three things are crispy bacon, crisp lettuce and juicy tomato slices served with mayo on freshly baked honey oat bread.

Subway, Libis
Subway, Libis

6-inch Roasted Chicken Breast (Php149). A six-inch sub with a tender, juicy roasted boneless chicken breast patty, with lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, onions and mayo is served on freshly baked honey oat bread.

Subway, Libis
Subway, Libis

Truth be told, Hubby ordered a 12-inch Spicy Italian (Php264), a footlong sub with spicy salami and pepperoni with crispy veggies on a freshly baked footlong bread, but I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of it anymore. Guess why, hehehe!

Well, I do plan on getting a fews subs again soon, especially since it has an ongoing Two for Php200 promo.

Feel like a sub today?

This Subway branch is located at Ground Floor, Zeta Tower, Bridgetowne Business Center, Libis, Quezon City, and is open from 9am to 4pm for takeout and delivery via GrabFood and FoodPanda.
